Job overview

As a Finance Analyst the post holder will be pivotal in supporting the Finance Manager and Finance Business Partner in month end reporting, analysis and discussing monthly reports with cost centre managers.  This role will help non-finance managers understand their role as a budget holder and communication with this staff group is key.  Experience in understanding and analysing finance data will be key along with effectively communicating budget holder feedback which will support with forecasting.

Main duties of the job

An opportunity has arisen for a permanent experienced Finance Analyst to assist with all aspects of financial management information collation within the finance department. You will be required to be an experienced user of excel with strong analytical skills. Previous experience of financial management would also be an advantage.


The post holder will be expected to assist the Finance Manager and Business Partner to provide robust monthly budgetary reporting, variance analysis and regular provision of forecasts, enabling an effective financial management service to be provided to the budget holders and managers within the Trust.

Good interpersonal and communication, especially verbal skills, are essential with an ability to work as part of a team.

  • Educated to degree level or equivalent experience

  • NHS – Minimum three years financial management/costing/commissioning experience in the NHS or an equivalent large and complex organisation
  • In-depth experience of; Financial Management as regards an Acute NHS Foundation Trust

  • Use of software applications (Microsoft)

EFFORT & ENVIRONMENT

Essential criteria
  • A substantial proportion of each day will be inputting at a keyboard and sitting at a desk
  • Frequent requirement for concentration when checking and reconciling information and when answering enquiries from senior staff and suppliers
  • Concentration is required as work patterns will be interrupted on a frequent basis as a result of unpredictable enquiries and requests for information and assistance from other finance staff and budget managers.
  • There will be occasions where prolonged concentration is required e.g. month end deadlines
  • Uses keyboard continuously for a substantial part of every day.
