Are you a band 5 or 6 looking to gain further rotational experience in the acute setting? We have an exciting opportunity for a Band 5/6 Occupational Therapist to join our friendly, innovative and dynamic Therapies team at Kettering General Hospital.
The Therapy team holds a high profile within the wider trust and is at the forefront of many service development strategies, continually developing and introducing new, pioneering prospects for the service.
Our Therapy Service provides high-quality assessment and treatment, beginning in A&E, MAU and Urgent Care areas, following patients through to the wards (Specialties include Acute Medicine, Endocrinology, Gerontology, Cardio-respiratory, Surgery and Orthopaedics).

Main duties of the job
Please apply for the following post if you are:
- A recently qualified Band 5, who will be interested in an accelerated Band 5 to 6 Development Programme – this is a supported programme focusing on developing your leadership skills and, practice development training while consolidating your clinical experience. You will have regular supervision to facilitate your personal and professional development from band 5 to band 6.
- An existing Band 6 looking for the next step in your career or to gain some more experience to consolidate and develop your existing clinical and leadership skills further.
- An Occupational Therapist looking to Return to Practice with an exciting structured 6 month initiative to provide a Band 6 opportunity for Occupational Therapists with previous appropriate experience in the acute setting. We support with exposure to wide clinical settings, online learning, competencies and University modules. Initially you will be paid as a Band 4 until you regain your HCPC registration, where after you will be re-graded as a Band 6.
We have an established Band 6 development programme focusing on both clinical and leadership development as well as the opportunity to attend Trust leadership programmes. All posts are supported with regular supervision, in-service training and appraisals.
This post is 37.5 hours and all posts will be expected to work across seven days

Detailed job description and main responsibilities
➢ To provide skilled Occupational Therapy assessment of patients with diverse
presentations and complex physical and psychological conditions.
➢ Hold responsibility for own caseload, working without direct supervision. Indirect supervision takes the form of regular formal training and clinical reasoning sessions and peer review.
➢ Regular formal supervision and support is provided by an Advanced Specialist Occupational Therapist.
➢ Undertake all aspects of clinical duties as an autonomous practitioner and be responsible for the assessment and prescription of equipment for patients. To provide necessary training in the safe use of bed rails/hoists etc to patient’s carers and other relevant staff following appropriate training.
➢ Share responsibility along with other qualified staff for the education of new graduates and support staff and act as a practice educator for Occupational Therapy students.
➢ Undertake evidence-based audit and research projects to further own and team’s clinical practice making recommendations to clinical lead / manager for changes in practice by the team. May lead the implementation of specific changes to practice or contribute to service
protocols.
➢ To provide high quality, evidence-based care across the seven day service.

- DipCot or BscOT
- HPC registered

Knowledge and Experience
Essential criteria
- Diverse experience as a band 5 across the health economy
- Broad base of clinical skills within a physical Health setting.
- NHS experience
- Proven experience of student or working experience within Orthopaedics/Surgery
- Clear understanding of role of O.T. within the acute setting
- Knowledge of national strategies and their impact on service provision
- O.T. models of practice and frames of reference.
- Knowledge of conditions commonly seen
- Ability to work across 7 day service

- Acute orthopaedics/surgical experience
- Detailed knowledge of national strategies and impact on service provision
