Job overview
To be accountable to the Director of Finance, ensuring statutory accounting requirements, DH and Monitor accounting standards and Trust policies for internal control, corporate governance and reporting requirements are met.
Main duties of the job
To provide financial information, advice and support to the Corporate, Core Services, Estates and Digital Divisions, meeting regularly with managers and budget holders to ensure that the financial position of the Divisions and the Trust are understood and that any potential financial problems are identified early enough for corrective action to be taken. The post holder must be capable of challenging and proposing solutions to ensure achievement of the Trust’s and CMT’s financial and performance objectives. To provide the relevant information so that assurance can be gained that all financial risks within the Directorate are reported.
To take the lead in developing Divisional ownership of all aspects of the forecasting process (i.e. activity, income, expenditure, workforce and cost improvement programmes), through training and regular engagement. To be able to review, analyse and challenge the outcome of the Divisional forecasts.
To take an interest and understand the impact of local and national policy on the Divisions financial and performance position.
To take responsibility for FM month end closedown, the Executive summary and the reporting pack for the Division, used to present the Year to Date financial position to key stakeholders including the Divisions, Operations Committee, Directors and Trust Board.
To take an active role in developing a Divisional finance and performance pack. To understand and monitor performance against agreed Key Performance Indicators.

Education, Training and Qualification
Essential criteria
- AAT qualified or as a minimum be part qualified for a CCAB qualification (Consultative Committee of Accountancy Bodies) with the intention of being a passed finalist within 4 years of appointment or equivalent experience.

- Qualified / Passed Finalist
Knowledge & Experience
Essential criteria
- Staff management or supervision
- Experience of delivering/ supporting specific improvement in Operational Performance
- Significant experience in financial management
Desirable criteria
- NHS acute teaching sector
- Experience dealing with contracts for Supplies & Services
- Evidence of presentation, influencing and negotiation skills
- Experience of cultivating good working relationships with key stakeholders
Skills
Essential criteria
- Ability to work in a multi-disciplinary environment
- Good interpersonal and communication skills
- Highly numerate and analytical skills to interpret complex data and to present information
- Detailed knowledge and experience of General Ledger systems and associated reporting tools
- Good verbal reasoning and report writing skills
- Highly experienced user of Excel, Word and PowerPoint
- Experience of working within an environment where there has been significant change
- To have worked with and monitored Key Performance Indicators
- Good problem-solving ability
Desirable criteria
- Knowledge of Qlikview and E-Procurement
- Experience of designing and running training sessions to financial and non-financial staff
