Job overview
We are looking for a locum consultant Trauma and Orthopaedic surgeon with an interest in Spine / locum Spinal surgeon for 6 months initially. There is the option to also partake in a 1 in 12 general trauma on call rota.
The Consultant will join a team of 12 other Consultant Surgeons, two of which have an interest in Spines, and will support the successful applicant, working in a collaborative manner. The job will include elective work and contributing to the development and supporting of the spinal service.
Main duties of the job
There will be six clinical PA’ sessions per week. The remaining sessions include ward rounds, teaching, audit, research and administration.
Currently, the on-call consists of a week day on call and weekend on call on 1:11 basis. The Consultant’s elective activity is reduced accordingly during the ‘on call’ week.

Detailed job description and main responsibilities
We are a member of the East Midlands Spinal Network with a close working relationship with University of Leicester Spinal Unit. We expect that the long term job plans will involve some combined working between Leicester and Kettering. Funding is in place for 2 posts and discussions are ongoing with Leicester to create Job plans and these jobs are interim in the meantime.

Essential and Desirable
Essential criteria
- Full GMC registration
- FRCS qualification or equivalent
- CESR qualification
- Neurosurgery and/or Trauma & Orthopaedic specialist training programme in the last 18 months
- MRCS
Desirable criteria
- 18 month's clinical experience in Orthopaedics at SpR level or above
- Experience demonstrating potential ability to cope with the demands as a DGH based Consultant
- Evidence of understanding the importance of GMC good medical practice, appraisal, and revalidatation
- Commitment to own continued professional development and that of others
- Evidence of undertaking research and audit activities
- Ability to take full independent responsibility for clinical care of patients.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills

You must have appropriate UK professional registration.
