Band 8a

Job overview

Are you an experienced senior people professional with significant experience of completing complex employment investigations? Maybe you are a from a clinical background and have significant experience of conducting investigation. We are pleased to be recruiting for an employee relations case investigator to join the people team at NHFT to undertake investigations and support complex employee relations casework and appeals, including disciplinary, grievance and bullying and harassment cases in formal procedure.

The employee relations case investigator will work autonomously and project-manage a caseload, ensuring that deadlines are met. Work will be varied across the Trust and you will work closely with HR and operational colleagues to establish investigation terms of reference, interview witnesses as required and produce comprehensive reports and recommendations.  You will also attend formal hearings to present your findings.

Main duties of the job

The post holder will work closely with the senior people specialist (employee relations) to support the employee relations best practice through development and delivery of training for case investigators. They will role model a clear and non-judgemental approach to case investigations, alongside a cultural awareness with a good understanding and positive approach to diversity. They will support staff who are subject to formal investigation; using just culture principles and encouraging a culture of openness, transparency and support. The Trust has significant focus on our resolution approach.

We are looking for candidates who have significant and successful senior HR experience of completing complex investigations, hearings and appeals in a highly unionised environment. We would also welcome applications from clinical colleagues with transferable skills gained from significant experience of investigating patient safety incidents and a sound understanding of employee relations casework.

Working for our organisation

NHFT is an integrated primary care and mental health Trust, providing physical, mental health and specialty services in both hospital settings and out in the community. Because we put the person at the centre of all we do, we focus on delivering care that is as easy to access as possible. This means many of our services can be provided at home, work or in schools. We also provide health services to various prisons and detention centres in Bedfordshire and Cambridgeshire.

NHFT promotes a culture of learning to improve the care and safety of our patients and staff, which focuses on people who enable our Trust to be ‘outstanding’ by supporting opportunity, innovation, development and growth.
