Clinical Lead for Children’s Speech and Language Therapy

Job overview

As a result of the ‘Balanced System Project’ which established the speech, language, and communication needs of children in our county, an exciting opportunity has arisen for a B8a Clinical Lead to join our team. 

The post holder will take a lead role in the development, transformation and reorganisation of the Children's Speech and Language team to meet the SLCN needs of children and young people (C&YP) in Northamptonshire.  

Main duties of the job

  • The main focus of the role will be to lead with the service transformation which will include reducing new referral waiting times in line with the 18-week Referral to Treatment Time (RTT), reduce internal secondary waiting lists and the timely completion of EHC needs assessments and reports.
  • Improve and develop the agreed service model and developing clinical structure
  • Assist with the continual modernisation and redesign of the Children’s Speech and Language Therapy, in line with National and Local initiatives, leading on the service transformation and agreed projects
  • Develop robust interagency relationships with key agencies supporting the development of integrated care pathways
  • To lead on service transformation and development
  • To develop co production working closely parents and families and the Children's participation team ensuring that service users and carers are included in all the work carried out by the Children’s Speech and Language team 
  • Understand the SEND agenda and ensure EHC needs assessments and reports are completed within the statutory timeframe
  • Review, develop and implement service specific pathways
  • Develop and work with other clinical leads across the trust to implement integrated and seamless pathways of care for patients across all NHFT services and partner organisations
  • Provide Clinical Supervision
  • Facilitate clinical quality for the Speech and Language Team

Knowledge and Experience

Essential criteria
  • Post-registration qualification in leadership or equivalent experience
  • Demonstrate a high degree of knowledge and experience around the implementation of project management and change management
  • Be acknowledged as an expert clinical leader, act as a role model and provide clinical supervision
  • Able to provide highly complex or sensitive information, where developed persuasive, motivational, negotiating, empathetic and/or reassuring skills are required
  • Experience of managing conduct and capability

Skills and Abilities

Essential criteria
  • Make complex clinical judgements in relation to patient care, risk identification and management
  • To communicate a range of complex, sensitive and contentious information in a range of formats including one to one meetings, formal and informal meetings, written reports and electronic communication including small databases
