Job overview

We are looking for a friendly person who likes to talk with patients and is good at making people feel at ease and offering support to others. 

You will need to be physically fit as some patient mobility assistance will be required at times (ie helping someone move from a wheelchair onto a couch)

In addition to supporting patients and their families during their time with us in the clinic you will be required to perform essential infection prevention tasks (ie cleaning clinic rooms and equipment).  

Main duties of the job

  • Supporting patients and relatives during their attendance in the department. 
  • Undertaking regular infection control measures of clinic rooms and equipment (cleaning). 
  • Ensuring adequate supply of consumables to maintain efficient and effective service delivery.

Detailed job description and main responsibilities

  • Assist the medical and clinical staff during clinics held in the department and occasionally on

wards including ITU.

  • Prepare clinic rooms.
  • Record patient data as directed by medical staff.
  • Transport portable equipment as required to wards.
  • Assist patients to undress and act as chaperone during examinations.
  • Assist patients with limited mobility using correct procedures/ techniques and equipment as

required.

  • Recognise safest means to assist patient mobility.
  • Support patients in basic hygiene needs.
  • Organise and maintain consumable stock levels.
  • Maintain levels of laundry and pharmacy items and liaise with these departments to ensure consistent supplies.
  • Carry out infection control procedures on clinic rooms and equipment on a regular basis.
  • Maintain the waiting room facilities and ensure it is clean and safe for all users.
  • Participate in departmental audits.

Education

Essential criteria
  • Educated to GCSE’s grade C level with minimum 4 GCSE’s to include English, Maths and Science or equivalent level of education, training or experience
Desirable criteria
  • NVQ level 2 patient care

Knowledge and experiance

Essential criteria
  • Experience of working with patients
  • Experience of patient handling and moving
  • Knowledge of infection prevention in healthcare
Desirable criteria
  • Experience of working with children, the elderly and people with special needs
  • Experiance of working in a diagnostic department

Skills

Essential criteria
  • Strong verbal and written English
  • High degree of accuracy
  • Ability to use IT screens and IT literate
  • Ability to exert physical effort (moving patients and equipment)
  • Ability to concentrate in a busy environment
