Job overview

The Medicine Division at Northampton General Hospital is looking to recruit a Divisional Capacity Manager. 

The capacity manager will present the Divisions capacity position at the bed meetings throughout the day and will actively work with the discharge team and the ward teams to help to expedite safe and timely patients discharge.

Main duties of the job

The primary role of Medicines Capacity Manager is to work with the Divisional team to ensure that we have capacity to meet the Divisions admission demand.

To do this the post holder will ensure that we have effective patient flow from admission to discharge within the Division.

The postholder will work closely with key stakeholders to ensure that patients are admitted into the right bed first time, every time.

The post holder must have an overview of the bed position throughout the day ensuring that they work closely with the Emergency Department (ED) to assist the Trust to maintain the 4 hour quality standards.

Essential criteria
  • Educated to degree level or equivalent knowledge, skills and experience.
  • Evidence of continuous professional development
Desirable criteria
  • Management or leadership course

Knowledge

Essential criteria
  • Experience/knowledge in an operational post relating to discharge and/or capacity and flow within an acute Trust.
  • Demonstrable understanding of clinical specialties and services and the ability to apply this to meet the needs of patients.
  • Knowledge of key indicators within the ED

Experience

Essential criteria
  • A commitment to improving patient services through an ability to sustain a clear performance focus on achieving set goals
  • A strong sense of personal and team accountability coupled to a clear understanding of the boundaries around delegated responsibility
  • Sound political judgement and astuteness in understanding and working with many different levels of staff using a common sense approach and understanding when it is necessary to escalate
