Senior Clinical Fellow in Paediatrics: 4 posts An exciting opportunity has arisen to join the Paediatric team at Northampton General Hospital and Leicester Royal Infirmary as a Senior clinical fellow (Middle grade/Registrar level) in  General Paediatrics and Neonatal care. This post will be for 18 months and subject to extension. Please note that this a non-training post. We encourage applicants wanting to progress through the CESR pathway. Job Overview: In the first 12 months, this post offers extensive clinical experience in General paediatrics and in level 2 neonatal care in a busy district general hospital setting. This would be followed by Tertiary (Level 3) neonatal experience at a registrar level in Leicester Royal Infirmary. During this period, the post holder will work across the two general paediatric wards, paediatric admissions unit, neonatal unit, post-natal wards and in the out-patients department. At Leicester Royal Infirmary there will be ample opportunities to care for sick babies at a Tertiary level. Hours: Full time-46 hours /week (working on a Full shift with an average of 46hours/week (some weeks will work less hours. Other weeks will work more as per Job description) Potential applicants are strongly encouraged to visit Northampton.

Main duties of the job

This is a Full-time post and the holder will be expected to work flexibly on the ST3+(middle grade/Registrar)rota. Duties will cover all areas in the department including admissions unit, Level 2 neonatal unit, out-patients, paediatric emergency department and maternity unit for high risk deliveries. The role also encompasses elements of clinical audit, clinical governance, teaching of medical students, nursing staff and junior doctors. There is a rolling programme of teaching with regular lunchtime teaching. There is a weekly clinical meeting (Friday afternoon), and X-ray meeting (Monday morning). Teaching is also available for postgraduate examinations, e.g. MRCPCH, DCH.  The successful applicant is expected to play a full part in the active department training programme for other doctors and assist in the education of clinical students from Oxford and other medical schools.  Day am Pm   Monday 9-10am X-ray meeting Ward Rounds Ward duties Tuesday Ward Rounds   Ward duties 1-2PM ST 3+ Journal club   Wednesday Ward Rounds 1-2pm  2-3PM SimulationTeaching (once a month) Ward duties Thursday Ward Rounds Ward duties 1-2PM ST 1-3 Teaching   Friday Ward Rounds 1300-1400 hrs 1st and 3rd Departmental Academic Programme 2nd Perinatal Meeting 3rd Hospital Grand rounds (4 times a year)
