Pre-registration Trainee Pharmacy Technician
To train and take part in the work of the Pharmacy Service to gain required qualifications to register with GPhC as a Pharmacy Technician.
Attendance one day during the working week (may be virtual) at a College of Further Education to gain the underpinning knowledge and skills necessary to gain the ‘Principles and Practice for Pharmacy Technicians BTEC Level 3 Diploma’, or equivalent to facilitate registration with GPhC as a Pharmacy Technician.
The role is based and working at both Northampton General Hospital Pharmacy and General Practice Alliance (GPA)
This is an apprenticeship role; applicants must meet the Apprenticeship eligibility criteria.

To achieve competence in the technical aspects of Pharmacy Services.
To be responsible for completing a portfolio of evidence to show competence, as required to achieve the Diploma.
To issue dispensed medicines to patients and confirm that they know how to use them.
To issue supplies of stock preparations for wards, departments and other areas, and to assist with the ‘top-up’ system.
To assist in the preparation of aseptic and cytotoxic medicines under supervision.
To assist in the maintenance of a clean and efficient environment suitable for the handling and compounding of medicinal substances.
To help to maintain an accurate computerised Pharmacy stock control system; to take part in stock control procedures.
To support the PCN and Clinical Pharmacy Team to ensure safe use of medicines

To support the PCN and Clinical Pharmacy Team to ensure safe use of medicines. This will include, under supervision: · Assisting with medication related queries from patients and other healthcare professionals and team members · Assisting with and performing medication reconciliations for any patients where there has been a transfer of care. · Assisting with medication safety audits and drug monitoring using established tools and processes · Assisting with safe prescribing processes · Providing information and advice to patients either face to face over via telephone · Developing relationships with other pharmacy professionals and members of the
To assist in the provision of medicines for the treatment of patients. This will include the following: · Accurately and promptly request in-patient supplies of medication for patients admitted to NGH · Accurately and promptly dispense prescriptions for in-patients, out-patients, · Issuing dispensed medicines to patients and confirming that they know how to use them. · Issuing supplies of stock preparations for wards, departments and other areas, and to assist with the ‘top-up’ system. · Assisting with Pharmacy ward-based activities including assisting with assessment of patients own medicines and assisting with taking patient medication histories.
To use technical and pharmaceutical skills to prepare medicines in an acceptable form for patients. This will include the following: · Assisting in the assembly of medicinal products in accordance with local policies. · Assisting in the preparation of aseptic and cytotoxic medicines under supervision. · Assisting in the maintenance of a clean and efficient environment suitable for the handling and compounding of medicinal substances. · Ensuring proper cleaning, maintenance and use of equipment.
To use technical and pharmaceutical skills to ensure control, security, quality and value for money of medicines. This will include the following: · Assisting with maintenance of appropriate storage and stock levels of medicines in Pharmacy departments to ensure quality, potency and economy. · Helping to maintain an accurate computerised Pharmacy stock control system; taking part in stock control procedures. · Assessing and returning medicines for re-use in accordance with departmental policy. · Undertaking duties connected with the ordering and receipt of medicines and ensure that the necessary manual and computer records are maintained.
To attain the Principles and Practice for Pharmacy Technicians BTEC Level 3 Diploma. This will include the following: · Achieving the required attendance and successfully complete the underpinning knowledge required for the Diploma. · Achieving competence in the technical aspects of Pharmacy Services. · Being responsible for completing a portfolio of evidence to show competence. Maintaining necessary records. |
