We are looking to recruit a Physiotherapist to join our vibrant, driven and hardworking team. Are you a band 5 looking to progress? Or an existing band 6 looking for a new challenge?
We are offering an opportunity for a proactive Physiotherapist, band 5 and above, to join our Inpatient Respiratory team.
You should have at least 12 months experience working in an acute trust, completed at least one respiratory rotation and have a keen interest to further develop your respiratory knowledge and skills. You should be able to work flexibly under continuously challenging conditions.

Main duties of the job
You will work across both Critical Care and the acute Respiratory wards at Northampton General Hospital, providing senior support to Band 3, 4 and 5 staff as well as supporting the Band 7s with service development projects. These service development projects include;
· The development of the Critical Care rehabilitation pathway
· The role of Physiotherapists in the management of NIV/CPAP patients and the management of tracheostomy patients
Professional Development is encouraged through the completion of static respiratory objectives and the annual appraisal process as well as working alongside experienced Respiratory Therapists’ within the team.
The successful applicant will work as part of the on-call rota (until 10pm at night, no overnight commitment) and weekend working will be required as part of the 7-day working service.
Northampton General Hospital provides the Stroke, Vascular & Oncology Centres of Excellence for Northamptonshire thus providing particular development opportunities in these specialist areas.

Detailed job description and main responsibilities
· To participate as a highly skilled member of the Respiratory Therapies team providing Physiotherapy assessment and treatment. This includes (but is not limited to) rotations on critical care, the acute respiratory ward and head and neck ward.
· To be an active member of the evening and weekend respiratory on call service.
· To be an active member of the inpatient therapy 7-day working service.
· To perform more advanced and detailed assessments of patients presenting with a wide range of complex conditions and comorbidities; providing a diagnosis, plan and goals to develop, and to deliver an individualised treatment programme to Respiratory patients.
· To work closely with Occupational Therapy colleagues to provide joint therapies assessments and treatment plans enabling efficient use of Therapies Team resources.
· To manage a caseload and be responsible for a defined area of the service, working without direct supervision, managing attendance of board rounds and ward meetings to contribute significantly to patient flow.
· To be a highly skilled in identifying pathways of patient care, discharge plans and suitable discharge locations.
· Clinical support and access to advice and supervision available at all times from a senior therapist within the Therapies Respiratory team and the wider Therapies department.
· Day to day management and supervision of ward/ therapy teams including band 5 therapists and band 3 & 4 therapy technical instructors as well as Physiotherapy students.
· Undertake evidence based audit and research projects to further own and teams clinical practice.
· Provide support to band 7 and 8 Therapy colleagues in the day to day running of the Respiratory Therapies team including staff appraisals, clinical projects, benchmarking, teaching and service evaluation.
· To promote the achievement of Northampton General Hospital’s vision and values.

Qualifications
Essential criteria
- BSc Honours in Physiotherapy or equivalent
- HCPC registration
- UK work permit
Desirable criteria
- Pursuing or willing to undertake post graduate training
- Evidence of attending courses relevant to the post
- Member of clinical specialist group ACPRC
Knowledge
Essential criteria
- Participation in work-based learning
- Good IT skills including use of email, MS office packages
- Evidence of Continuing Professional Development relevant to clinical area
- Current band 5 or 6 experience within an acute hospital setting.
- Completion of a variety of the core band 5 rotations (orthopaedics, surgical, medical, care of the elderly, respiratory and stroke unit)
- Experience of working in the NHS.
- Experience of working in a respiratory setting
- Experience of audit and/or QI projects
- Experience and knowledge of Clinical Governance
- Experience and knowledge of Rehab in critical care e.g. GPICs
- Experience in and reflection on using devices such as NIV, CPAP, hi flow oxygen, mechanical insufflation-exsufflation
Desirable criteria
- Experience in respiratory on call work and/or seven-day working
- Experience of leading work-based learning
- High-level of experience in the care pathways and discharge options of patients in Northamptonshire
- Experience in mentoring physiotherapy students
- Experience of being a practice educator
Skills

- Experience of interpersonal working
- Good written and verbal communication, maintaining high standards of note keeping
- Able to manage caseload autonomously and delegate appropriately

- Able to get to the hospital within 45 minutes (for on call purposes)
