Pharmacy Volunteer (over 18’s) – delivering medication to wards.

Response Volunteer– ad hoc requests from all over the hospital to support patients, wards, and departments.

Transport Volunteer (3 years driving experience) – Indoor/Outdoor Buggy and the Volunteer Service Discharge Car

We are looking for volunteers Monday to Friday:

AM Shift – start 8.30am and finish at 12.30pm.

PM Shift – starts 12.30am and finish at 4.30pm.

Our volunteers are an invaluable part of the hospital team. When you volunteer with us, you help to improve patient experience through supporting staff with patient care.

Main duties of the job

PHARMACY VOLUNTEER (over 18’s)

·      To collect pharmacy medication bags from the pharmacy team and deliver these to the identified wards/departments in line with health and safety guidelines. This role involves a lot of walking all over the Trust.

·   Complete all pharmacy delivery paperwork, including staff signatures as required.

·      Ensure all medication is kept secure and distributed in line with all policies and procedures of the pharmacy department.

·    Assist with the distribution of correspondence and documentation, ensure clearly labelled and dated and deliver to wards and departments in sealed bags.

·     Collect pharmacy return medication sealed bags, and boxes from wards, and return to pharmacy.

·         Confidentiality must always be maintained regarding patients.

 

RESPONSE VOLUNTEER

·     Collecting and delivering notes / swabs / medication / equipment & running errands from various departments / wards

·         Providing a courtesy ‘Meet & Greet’ service (wheelchair training required)

·         Assisting with patient / family video calls on wards.

·         Operating a library service to wards

·         Visiting / chatting to patients who may not have visitors on wards.

·     Support within A&E and Pharmacy departments (over 18’s only with full training)

·         Assist with wellbeing rounds, offering drinks to patients.

·   Undertake patient / staff surveys to collect data to understand their experience.

·    Confidentiality must be always maintained regarding patients and their property.

·     Guide people around the hospital and be proactive in assisting anyone who may be lost or need help.

·      Take the Brew Buddy out to support staff wellbeing.

·      Whilst carrying a radio always ensuring you speak professionally over the system and never speak about patients over the radio.

 

TRANSPORT VOLUNTEER (3 years driving experience)

·     To greet and chat with patients or visitors on arrival and provide a welcoming and relaxing atmosphere.

·         To transport visitors to their appointments / wards.

·         Support patients to access the buggy, ensuring the seatbelt is secured.

·     Undertake visual safety checks at the start of the shift, reporting any issues immediately.

·         Only driving in designated areas.

·         Ensure all logs and paperwork are completed and accurate.

·         To attend all mandatory training and any additional training as required.

 

Additional duties for the Discharge Car

·     To always work closely with another volunteer. to support the discharged patient safely to the car and into their homes.

·    To greet and chat with the patient discharged providing a welcoming and relaxing atmosphere putting the patient at ease on their journey home.

Transport

·         Be courteous and considerate of other road users.

Educations, Training and Qualifications

Essential criteria
  • No specific qualifications are required for this role, although any relevant qualifications should be detailed on the application.
  • Full UK driving licence with minimum 3 years’ experience (Transport volunteers only)
