Pre-registration Trainee Pharmacy Technician Apprentice

Apprenticeship

Job overview

Northamptonshire Healthcare NHS Foundation Trust (NHFT) strive to continually innovate and make a positive difference to our community and those working for and with our Trust. NHFT have decided to collaborate with the pharmacy teams of local  community pharmacies and the 3Sixty Care Partnership Primary Care Networks (PCNs), to support the expansion of the pharmacy technician workforce. The NHFT Pharmacy Department is looking to recruit 2 Apprentice Pre-Registration Pharmacy Technicians to join our forward-thinking team to support the provision of high-quality pharmacy services across Northamptonshire.

This is a unique training post designed to give the trainee the experience and knowledge to be able to qualify and work as a Pharmacy Technician in various pharmacy sectors, including mental health services, GP surgeries and community pharmacy. The apprentice will be supported by the pharmacy team and the chosen training provider, Buttercups Training, throughout the placement. Training materials, dedicated study time, access to distance learning and virtual classrooms, in conjunction with working in clinical settings will help the trainees achieve the required skills and competencies to successfully register as a pharmacy technician with the General Pharmaceutical Council (the regulatory body for Pharmacy).

Main duties of the job

These include accurately receiving, dispensing and final accuracy checking prescriptions. With the patient facing nature of the rotations, the post holder will become confident in counselling patients, working as part of a multidisciplinary team, supporting patients when transferring between care settings and responding to medication queries. As the trainee develops in their apprenticeship, they will be able to provide technical leadership on medicines optimisation and quality improvement.

Chosen applicants are required to demonstrate excellent communication skills, be able to quickly learn new IT systems, work efficiently, accurately, pay attention to detail and enjoy working as part of a team. You will need to be highly committed and will need to be highly organised, self-motivated and capable of meeting multiple deadlines.

Working for our organisation

NHFT is an integrated primary care and mental health Trust, providing physical, mental health and specialty services in both hospital settings and out in the community. Because we put the person at the centre of all we do, we focus on delivering care that is as easy to access as possible. This means many of our services can be provided at home, work or in schools. We also provide health services to various prisons and detention centres in Bedfordshire and Cambridgeshire.

This is a 2 year fixed term contract. With no guarantee of a substantive Pharmacy Technician post, every effort will be made to find a suitable position once qualified. The post is full time Monday to Friday, Agenda for change B4 annex 21 (70% top of Band 4 Year 1 and 75% of top of band 4 Year 2)

Please note: Applicants must meet all apprenticeship eligibility criteria listed below:

  • Must be a UK or EEA citizen and have lived in the county for the last 3 years or a non EEA/UK citizen with right to work in the county with evidence that you have lived in the UK for the previous 3 years.
  • Must NOT be in full time education by starting date of apprenticeship.
  • Must NOT hold an equivalent or higher previous qualification in a related subject to the apprenticeship being offered.

In addition, the post will require working at sites across Northamptonshire, therefore perspective candidates will require access to transport.
