Criminal Justice Liaison and Diversion Team – Recovery Support Worker

We have an exciting opportunity for motivated and enthusiastic Band 4 Recovery Support Worker to work as an integrated part of the Criminal Justice Liaison and Diversion Team in Northamptonshire. By joining our team you will experience working in specialist environments and develop skills in working with hard to reach groups.

This role has multiple bases including Criminal Justice Centre Brackmills, Weekly Wood Justice Centre Kettering, Northamptonshire Courts and county wide community setting.

The role of the Liaison & Diversion Recovery Support Worker is to work in partnership with Police, Probation, His Majesty's Court and Tribunal Service and Third Sector organisations to assist in the screening and assessment of offenders pre and post charge in Police Custody, Magistrates Courts and other Criminal Justice locations.

 

Main duties of the job

The Liaison & Diversion Service is an all age, all vulnerability model and  will screen identified individuals and advise partner agencies on their needs and the potential impact on their offending behaviour to help identify appropriate custodial or alternative to custody options.  The Recovery Support Worker will demonstrate an understanding of health needs of offenders and will work closely alongside partner agencies to promote the safety and the well- being of offenders, their families/carers and the wider public.

The post holder will assist in the engagement of the service user to meet their health needs within the community. 

This service operates 7 days per week between the hours of 08:00 - 20:00. We are seeking a recovery support worker to join us for 37.5 hours per week 

 

NHFT is an integrated primary care and mental health Trust, providing physical, mental health and specialty services in both hospital settings and out in the community. Because we put the person at the centre of all we do, we focus on delivering care that is as easy to access as possible. This means many of our services can be provided at home, work or in schools. We also provide health services to various prisons and detention centres in Bedfordshire and Cambridgeshire.

Detailed job description and main responsibilities

KEY DUTIES

·       To assist Practitioners in initial assessments of suspects or offenders to identify present needs, and refer to other pathways dependant on presenting vulnerability.

·       Work collaboratively with local services and agencies to conduct detailed assessments of appropriate referrals with a focus on offending behaviour, risk of harm to others and related issues and needs.

·       To assist Practitioners in undertaking comprehensive assessment of client’s individual needs and strengths to obtain and record all relevant information about their physical health, substance misuse, learning disability, mental health, their social and personal circumstances, their care service histories and current needs and problems.

·       Develop, monitor and review plans to meet identified needs with the supervision of Practitioners.

·       Deploy a range of strategies using evidence based psychosocial interventions for individuals that is time limited, with a focus on reducing and managing offending behaviour and risk of harm to others.

·       To assess needs and requirement in housing, occupation and benefits with knowledge of appropriate support agencies.

·       To assist service users to engage in agreed plans of care in the community.

·       Promote choice during all interactions.

·       Use of IT including Microsoft Word/Excel/PowerPoint and Internet.

·       To be open to learning and creatively finding solutions.

·       To actively promote individuals and colleagues rights and responsibilities, and diversity in line with NHFT policies and procedures. 

·       To promote and develop effective working relationships with key agencies.

·       To take personal responsibility to keep knowledge up to date.

·       To maintain records, collect statistical data and store information in accordance with the requirements of the post, NHFT and protocols and the Data Protection Act.

·       Productive working relationships with team and other NHFT Departments.

·       To prepare for and participate in regular supervision/peer support meetings with senior practitioners.

·       Improve the experience of patients with mental health illnesses who receive care in the crisis care pathway.

·       Provide perspective to multi-disciplinary team members regarding assessment, intervention, management and safety planning. 

·       Contribute to support, training and skill development for individuals and groups in mental health awareness.

·       To promote co-production with the service user in all processes and interventions throughout the services within the pathway.

The role requires a support worker that can ‘think outside the box’ where taking initiative is essential. The role incorporates leadership skills. Taking a key part in decision making forums and supporting colleagues is essential. It will require advanced skills in prioritisation so to best support the service user and colleagues.
