Job overview

Kettering General Hospital are in the process of recruiting roles at our newly  renovated site, Spinneyfields in Rushden. We pride ourselves on maintaining a clean, safe and welcoming environment for our patients and staff. 

We are seeking dedicated and positive Facilities Assistants who can work flexible shift patterns across the week and alternate weekends.

The role will consist of a mixture of Housekeeping, Catering and light Portering duties. 

Catering - You will be part of a team that provides meals to our patients. The post holders will be expected to carry out duties that involve the lifting, pulling, and pushing of heavy trolleys, cleaning duties and dealing with waste.

Housekeeping - You will be performing cleaning duties according to cleaning schedules, agreed practices and protocols as guided by the supervisory team. To undertake these duties across the site in both clinical and non-clinical areas. Working to the Trust standards, protocols and guidelines ensuring a clean and safe environment in line with the National Standards of Cleanliness (NSC) in the NHS.

Portering - The post will also include other duties such as the collection and delivery of equipment, post, medical gasses, linen, and waste movements.

Education / Training

Essential criteria
  • Level 1 in IT or equivalent experience/skill
  • Be willing to undertake the Basic Food Hygiene Certificate
  • Educated to or working towards NVQ Level 2 in Cleaning and Support Skills

Knowledge

Essential criteria
  • Knowledge, understanding or willingness to learn different dietary & cultural needs
Desirable criteria
  • Previous knowledge of COSHH
  • Previous experience of cleaning in a Healthcare Environment
  • Knowledge of health & safety in the workplace

Skills

Essential criteria
  • Ability to communicate effectively with colleagues and service users
  • Good organisational skills
  • Educated to basic entrance level in English literacy and numeracy
  • Able to prioritise own workload within policy and guidelines using own initiative
  • Able to lift and handle medium loads and use safe manual handling techniques
  • Able to operate and manipulate mechanical cleaning machines
  • Basic Computer Skills
