All Ages Specialist Safeguarding Professional

Band 7

Job overview

The focus of the work for the post holder will have a key role in promoting good professional practice and providing all elements of the safeguarding agenda under the guidance of the Named Professionals/Nurse(s) for Safeguarding. Safeguarding Northamptonshire’s population spans across generations and the Trust advocates a Think family (think household) model, which all practitioners must ascribe to. The post will focus on the provision of NHFT patients of all ages in a cradle to grave approach. The post holder will take the lead in providing supervision, training, specialist advice and support relating to safeguarding. The post holder contributes to developing the skills of the frontline practitioners, particularly in relation to assessment of risk, and report writing.

The post holder acts as an advocate for vulnerable children and adults at risk, raising awareness of their needs and actively promoting the philosophy that their interests are paramount. The post holder will have a working knowledge of safeguarding relating to children and adults at risk. The knowledge will apply to an understanding of relevant legislation and the interface between the Care Act (2014) and Children Act (1989:2004)

Main duties of the job

  • To work as part of the safeguarding team to provide expert advice, training, supervision and support to all staff working within Northamptonshire Healthcare NHS Foundation Trust on issues relating to the protection of vulnerable children, young people and adults at risk.
  • To work within a multi-agency safeguarding hub (MASH) to facilitate information sharing relating to vulnerable children.
  • To support teams in identifying areas of risk to adults, children and young people and develop risk management plans with them to address these risks.
  • To monitor safeguarding activity from the West and North Northamptonshire councils and support learning form Section 42(2)s of the Care Act (2014).
  • To promote best practice in ensuring the welfare of adults, children, and young people where their ‘voices are heard’ and that safeguarding has been ‘made personal’- including utilising a ‘think family’(household) approach.
  • To participate in the regular responsibility for the Duty Lead role, acting as a single point of contact for the safeguarding team for that day. This will involve the responsibility for managing the safeguarding service’s incoming work priorities. The post holder will be expected to effectively respond to emergency and priority cases which will involve using their professional judgement and undertake complex work/duty planning across the wider team, including re-organisation and delegation of work.

Working for our organisation

NHFT is an integrated primary care and mental health Trust, providing physical, mental health and specialty services in both hospital settings and out in the community. Because we put the person at the centre of all we do, we focus on delivering care that is as easy to access as possible. This means many of our services can be provided at home, work or in schools. We also provide health services to various prisons and detention centres in Bedfordshire and Cambridgeshire.

NHFT promotes a culture of learning to improve the care and safety of our patients and staff, which focuses on people who enable our Trust to be ‘outstanding’ by supporting opportunity, innovation, development and growth.
