Job overview

The Derbyshire Division at East Midlands Ambulance Service are seeking applications from experienced senior operational managers with a strong background in operational delivery.

We are looking for individuals who have a strong track record in service and operational delivery not necessarily within the ambulance sector but experience in a complex and fast paced environment is essential.

Main duties of the job

Demonstrable experience in project and change management is essential along with strong analytical and strategic planning skills.

This role will take the lead as a Divisional coordinating role in the development of operational delivery and improvement plans, linking the Divisional priorities with other business areas such as fleet, logistics, resilience and workforce/education. 

This role is responsible for the strategic and planned aspects of Divisional activity, supporting the Divisional leadership team which is focused on the reactive / dynamic aspects of service delivery. The role, along with the Divisional Director and Heads of Operations, is a key interface with external stakeholders and partners.

 

 

Working for our organisation

The role will have a responsibility for managing and planning assets to ensure delivery of contractual targets, quality standards and adherence to cost improvement controls and planning and directly lead and manage the resource management team.

This role will also be responsible for the management and leadership of the Divisional Duty Commander team and responsible for ensuring the command capability of the Division is maintained.

Operationally, the role will work across 5 days and provide Divisional senior manager on call (SMOC) cover as part of our overall command structure, to ensure consistent delivery of services across the 7 days and 24hr period.

Essential criteria
  • Degree level management - qualification (or studying for) or equivelent experience
  • Knowledge of health service management, including change management and workforce design

Experience

Essential criteria
  • Track record of achievement in the planning of service delivery gained over at least 2 years
  • Experience of people management in relation to managing attendance, performance and conduct
  • Able to plan and organise a broad range of complex activities or programmes, some of which are ongoing, which require the formulation and adjustment of plans or strategies
  • Well-developed resource planning skills
