You will be responsible for the clinical management and leadership of the Integrated Mental Health Team within the Prison establishment. 

The post holder will be responsible for the day to day organisation and smooth running of the multi-disciplinary team, providing a service to a diverse caseload of patients who are presenting with mental health problems and a high risk of harm. 

To lead and coordinate a team of healthcare professionals in the delivery of effective clinical management of patients who have a wide range of health issues.

The role is pivotal in leading and co-ordinating a high quality, safe, effective and efficient service to meet the needs of the patient population across the prison establishment .

To lead effective Mental Health services for patients, which deliver against required standards.

To demonstrate innovative practice, whilst collaboratively working with multiple stakeholders, maintaining clinical efficacy, enabling the service to compete as provider of choice to local commissioners.

Main duties of the job

Healthcare delivery in prison is never dull or predictable – it is very rewarding. Every day will bring new challenges and new experiences to you as a qualified professional. The Integrated Mental Health team consists of senior mental health nurses, ND nurse, psychology, support workers and psychiatry provision who provide a stepped model approach to care provision and cover all aspects of mental health needs.  The team provides  case management and group work 7 days a week.  The team have good working relationships with the Prison staff which is reflected in excellent health outcomes for our most vulnerable men.

Detailed job description and main responsibilities

The Offender Health Care Group is one of the largest and most successful providers of prison healthcare in the UK. The Directorate provide physical, mental health and substance misuse healthcare services in prisons across the East Midlands, Lincolnshire & Leicestershire.

The Care Group  provides healthcare to 7 prisons. You are part of a large peer group of 400+ healthcare professionals with access to peer support, supervision and excellent opportunities for learning and development. We also offer services within the Personality Disorder Pathway, including Therapeutic Communities (within prisons), Community and Prison Personality Disorder services and specialist Veteran Services.

We are committed to working in partnership with prison services, national probation service other healthcare providers and our criminal justice system partners to improve health, support justice to reduce re-offending behaviour. The Offender Health Team truly believes it can make a difference to the lives of offenders by offering consistent, high-quality care in primary, mental health and substance misuse services that are equivalent to health services delivered outside of Prison.  

You will be responsible for providing clinical and managerial leadership to a high standard, promoting best practice and developing Mental Health services to enhance quality and improve patient experience. You will be working alongside the Clinical Matrons for Substance Misuse and Physical Care and other healthcare professionals in the wider healthcare team you will have all the support you need to deliver the best care possible to our patients at HMP Lowdham.

Qualification

Essential criteria
  • Registered Mental Health Nurse/Learning Disability First Level Registration
  • Master’s degree or equivalent Evidence of CPD
Desirable criteria
  • Mentorship qualification

Experience

Essential criteria
  • Experience of Managing teams and services
  • Experience of performance Management
  • Knowledge and Experience in the provision of care to the complex needs of mental health patients
Desirable criteria
  • Experience of developing services

Knowledge

  • Good Knowledge of safeguarding
  • Knowledge of therapeutic approaches used in secure environments including the Recovery Agenda
  • Knowledge and understanding of the interface across Clinical pathways

  • Experience of working with offenders/criminal justice system

  • Excellent patient focused assessment skills
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
