We are delighted to offer the opportunity for a qualified Clinical Associate Psychologist post at Band 6 based in the Mansfield Local Mental Health Team (LMHT). The LMHTs have a range of mental health professionals working within them and support people who experience a variety of mental health difficulties, including complex trauma, psychosis, depression, anxiety, dissociation, self-harm and life-threatening behaviours. The successful applicant will work alongside two experienced Clinical Psychologists working in the team and will support  them with the provision of psychological interventions with patients who are under the LMHT. The post holder will be a key member of the multidisciplinary LMHT, providing direct individual and group clinical work.

Main duties of the job

Clinical Associate Psychologists will be working alongside qualified Clinical Psychologists as a part of the psychological services contribution to the Mansfield multidisciplinary community teams. This post will enhance the current workforce provision serving the mental health needs of the local community. In this role the CAP will provide a flexible community offer as they are competent in the planning, delivery and evaluation of evidence-based psychological interventions.

Detailed job description and main responsibilities

The post holder will work semi-autonomously on a day-to-day basis within their scope of practice under supervision of and subject to review at regular intervals by a registered practitioner psychologist in accordance with British Psychological Society (BPS) guidelines.

The post holder will work as part of a multi-disciplinary service team providing psychology services for adults.  The post holder will be based at the Mansfield LMHT.  The Trust reserves the right with consultation to relocate post holders to any based within the Trust in line with service requirements.

To post holder will undertake a range of clinical activities across a range of settings including in person, by telephone or digital platforms. Activity will include psychological assessments, treatments and other types of clinical intervention with individual service users, carers, families, groups etc; along with other activities such as staff training; research and development activity.

Liaison with a broad range of other discipline and agencies including health, social care and voluntary services will be a key aspect of this post.

Qualifications

Essential criteria
  • An approved qualification in psychology conferring eligibility for graduate basis for registration with the British Psychological Society, with either a Bachelor’s degree (Class 2.2 or higher) or a Bachelor’s degree (any class) together with a higher degree with successful completion of a BPS accredited post-graduate
Desirable criteria
  • Evidence of relevant post doctoral studies in a relevant field (e.g. MSc, MA, MPhil, PGDip)

Clinical Experience

Essential criteria
  • Experience of work in the NHS with Adult Populations
  • Non NHS experience with Adult populations, including working in voluntary sector/ charitable organisations (e.g. outreach work, or local engagement work including youth worker, mentoring, peer support etc.
  • Experience of work with client groups with mental health problems, including mental health care and/or working with carers
  • Experience of delivering therapeutic group interventions and/ or supporting reflective practice spaces
  • Experience of working in MDTs and/or multi-agency teams
Desirable criteria
  • Work in multi-cultural settings, with people from a range of backgrounds, including working with interpreters.
  • Experience of working with behaviours that challenge services in a least restrictive way.

Applied Skills

Essential criteria
  • Evidence of applying graduate level knowledge of psychological theory in practice
  • Graduate knowledge of research design and methodology including quantitative and qualitative methods
  • Ability to draw upon a specific theoretical knowledge base in the analysis of facts or situations to arrive at appropriate formulations, under clinical supervision
  • Awareness of the potential impact of discrimination & disadvantage on mental health
  • Transferable Skills -Good organisational skills and an ability to work well to deadlines.
  • Good IT skills.
  • Demonstrates excellent interpersonal, communication and active listening skills
  • Strong communication and presentation skills, both written and verbal
  • Contain and work with organisational stress and able to hold the stress of others.
  • Manage effectively exposure to distressing/highly emotional circumstances.
  • Respectful and collaborative approach to service users, families, carers, colleagues and other professionals.
  • Manage effectively verbal aggression from service users, families, etc. and the risk of physical aggression.
