Job overview

An exciting opportunity has arisen for an experienced registered nurse to join the senior nursing team on SRU as a Deputy Ward Manager on either a 6 month Secondment or permanent post . The Specialist Receiving Unit is an admissions area which accepts patients under the specialities of Oncology, Haematology, Renal and Infectious Diseases. The ward is a short stay unit with a fast turnover of patients, the candidate must be able to work in a busy and fast paced environment whilst co-ordinating the safe transfer of patients to base wards.

We are looking for an enthusiastic, dynamic and committed Deputy Ward Manager. You must display excellent leadership and communication skills and be confident to deal with members of the public and the hospitals multidisciplinary team. It is essential that you have recent experience in an acute environment. You will also be required to support staff and take an active role in band 6 management duties.

Detailed job description and main responsibilities

The post holder will act as Deputy to the Ward Sister/Charge Nurse/Clinical Nurse Specialist. He/she will be required to:

Act as the deputy to the ward sister/charge nurse regularly taking charge of the unit and ensuring that the standards and quality of care given to patients, together with the environment in which care is delivered, are maintained at a high standard.

Be an effective leader and role model and will be expected to provide regular direct clinical care and use experience to support the implementation of both clinical and non-clinical governance
