ARRS GP in the On the Day Service

The ARRS General Practitioner (GP) working in the Primary Care Network (PCN) commissioned On the Day Service will be at the forefront of providing patient-centred, urgent care within the primary care setting.

This role is critical in ensuring patients presenting with acute medical concerns receive timely and high-quality consultations, advice, treatment, and referrals as needed. The GP will work in a dynamic, fast-paced 
environment, responding to a diverse range of clinical presentations with professionalism, empathy, and efficiency.

The post-holder will manage same-day appointments through face-to-face consultations delivering care that meets clinical standards and adheres to best practices. This role offers an exciting opportunity for a 
highly motivated and adaptable individual to make a meaningful impact on the health outcomes of patients.

The GP will work collaboratively with a multidisciplinary team that includes nurses, healthcare assistants, pharmacists, and administrative staff to provide seamless and holistic care. In addition to direct patient 
care, the post-holder will actively contribute to service development, clinical governance, and educational initiatives within the organisation.

The Additional Role Reimbursement Scheme (ARRS) GP must not be beyond the second anniversary of their certificate of completion of training, issued by the General Medical Council, at the start of their 
employment or engagement.

Clinical Responsibilities
• Making professional, autonomous decisions in relation to presenting problems, whether self-referred or referred from other health care workers within the organisation or Primary Care Network.
• Assessing the health care needs of patients with undifferentiated and undiagnosed problems.
• Undertake detailed clinical assessments, including history-taking, physical examinations, and ordering diagnostic investigations when clinically appropriate.
• Screening patients for disease risk factors and early signs of illness.
• Formulate and implement evidence-based management plans tailored to each patient’s clinical needs, ensuring safe and effective prescribing practices.
• Manage medical emergencies within the scope of primary care, escalating or referring patients to secondary or specialist care services as necessary.
• In consultation with patients and in line with current disease management protocols, developing 
care plans for health.
• Providing counselling and health education.
• Referring to other care providers as appropriate.
• Recording clear and contemporaneous consultation notes to agreed standards.
• Collecting data for audit purposes and complying with QOF requirements.
• Compiling and issuing computer-generated acute and repeat prescriptions (avoiding hand-written prescriptions whenever possible).
• Prescribing in accordance with the prescribing formulary (or generically) whenever this is clinically appropriate
