Nottingham City GP Alliance (NCGPA) is seeking an experienced Non-Executive Director (NED) to join our Board and contribute to the leadership and strategic direction of our organisation.

Main duties of the job

The Role

As a Non-Executive Director, you will provide oversight, expertise, and strategic guidance to help NCGPA achieve its goals. You will bring an independent perspective to our Board and work with the team to ensure effective governance and decision-making.

We are particularly interested in candidates with:

  • Managerial expertise with a strong background in governance and system-level working.
  • Operational expertise to support organisational transformation and sustainable growth.
  • A sound understanding of General Practice and the challenges faced by primary care today.
  • Strategic thinking and problem-solving abilities, offering new perspectives and insights.
  • Financial and risk management skills, with an understanding of budgets, resource allocation, and accountability.
  • Leadership and relationship-building skills, to support effective collaboration and partnership working.
  • A commitment to diversity, equity, and inclusion and an understanding of how these values enhance organisational success.
  • Good judgement, integrity, and the ability to challenge constructively while maintaining a supportive approach.

What We’re Looking For

We welcome applications from individuals who:

  • Have experience at a senior leadership level, ideally within healthcare or a related field.
  • Understand the complexities of primary care and the NHS system.
  • Are committed to supporting Nottingham’s diverse communities.
  • Can act as an advocate and ambassador for NCGPA, engaging with stakeholders at all levels.

Time Commitment and Remuneration

This is a part-time, non-executive role, requiring approximately 1-2 days per month, including Board meetings and occasional additional commitments. An honorarium will be provided.

Skills and experience

Essential criteria
  • A strong understanding of corporate governance, compliance, and risk management.
  • Proven experience in a senior leadership or management role, ideally in healthcare or a related field.
  • Experience of supporting organisations through change, with a focus on sustainability and efficiency.
  • A sound understanding of the challenges and opportunities within primary care and the NHS system.
  • Ability to see the bigger picture, identify trends, and provide innovative solutions.
  • Strong interpersonal skills to work effectively with diverse stakeholders and teams.
Desirable criteria
  • Financial literacy and experience of budget oversight.
  • Knowledge of Nottingham’s healthcare system and the needs of its communities.
  • Experience in organisational development or workforce transformation.
