Job overview

Due to several internal promotions, NUH Cellular Pathology have the pleasure in advertising several new posts that have been substantively funded as part of our programme of expansion to deliver diagnostic turnaround time.

We are pleased to be offering the opportunity for committed, full time, candidates who are willing to undertake up to a 3-year training programme in Cellular Pathology (Pathway of New Graduate to Specialist BMS) The laboratory is committed to provide the resource and time needed to ensure successful completion of the IBMS Registration and Specialist Portfolios to suitably qualified applicants.  Dependent on experience the successful candidates would be placed under Annex U pay conditions.

Year 1 Pre HCPC-registration - 65% Top of Scale Band 6

Year 2 HCPC registered specialist training - 70% Top of Scale Band 6

Year 3 HCPC registered specialist training - 75% Top of Scale Band 6

Main duties of the job

This large, busy department provides a full diagnostic Cellular Pathology service to hospitals across Nottingham, including BMS dissection, frozen section production, paraffin wax processing, special staining, diagnostic cytology, renal and Mohs services, immunohistochemistry, paediatric/perinatal pathology, enzyme histochemistry and translational research.

The successful candidates will be expected to contribute across all areas of the department on a rotational basis.

Working for our organisation

The department is approved for training by the IBMS/HCPC and holds UKAS ISO:15189 accreditation.


Working hours are 37.5 hours Monday to Saturday within 7a.m. to 17.30 p.m.  The post holder will be expected to work 5 days a week covering a Monday to Saturday service on a rotational basis.  You will be required to work in the Histopathology laboratories on both QMC and City Hospital NUH Campuses.

Informal visits to the department are strongly encouraged.

The successful candidate will have an accredited biomedical science degree and must demonstrate commitment to continuing education and training. 

Once fully qualified you will have line manager responsibilities for your team including appraisals, training and mentoring. This is a great role for individuals looking to join the HCPC register and commit to the Cellular Pathology discipline.
