Applications are invited to apply for the post of Consultant in Clinical Genetics at Nottingham University Hospitals NHS Trust. This post is a part time (6PA) permanent contract.
The successful candidate will be expected to have a varied clinical workload with the opportunities to sub-specialise in the future.
The successful applicant will join a team of 8 consultant geneticists and 22 genetic counsellors/genetic information officers/nurses. We would be very pleased to receive enquiries from candidates with particular special interests and to discuss how these complement the interests of the existing team. In addition to pre-natal genetics, current specialty interests include cardiac, eye, renal and endocrine genetics, adult learning difficulties, psychiatric disorders, neurogenetics, skeletal dysplasias and cancer genetics. The post provides excellent opportunities to practice in all aspects of this developing specialty in a busy teaching centre.
Applicants must have full registration with the General Medical Council and be eligible for inclusion onto the GMC Specialist Register. Those trained in the UK must have evidence of Higher Speciality Training leading to a Certificate of Completion of Training (CCT) in Clinical Genetics, or the expected date of award of their CCT falls no more than 6 months after the date of interview. Non-UK applicants must demonstrate equivalent training.
Main duties of the job
This post is a 6 PA permanent contract.
The post will include prenatal genetics as well as general and paediatric work. The service covers a population of about 2 million people, the geographical area to be covered is Nottingham, Mansfield, Grantham, Boston, Spalding, Lincoln, Spalding, Skegness and Derby.
The appointee will be expected to fulfil the following duties with the agreed Job Plan.
· Attend outpatient clinics.
· Participate in Urgent Prenatal Clinic and Ward Referral rota depending on experience
· Dictate post-clinic letters promptly.
· Maintain continued professional development.
· Attend educational and multidisciplinary sessions.
· Undertake audit at various times throughout the rotations.
· Teach medical students and other medical personnel as directed.
· Co-operate with members of the personnel department when monitoring hours of work and other personnel issues.

Our team of doctors, genetic counsellors and scientists work closely together to provide patients with the information and support they need, especially at particularly stressful times in life. We also work closely with a wide variety of medical specialities to provide joint clinics and specialist services for particular genetic disorders. We offer a wide variety of genetic testing: diagnostic, predictive, carrier testing and prenatal testing with the appropriate genetic counselling.

Essential criteria
- Full registration with the GMC
