Job overview

An exciting opportunity has arisen for an experienced registered nurse to undertake a role as a Band 6 Deputy Ward Manager on Fletcher Ward.

Fletcher Ward is a fast-paced, JACIE accredited, 18 bedded Stem Cell Transplant and CAR-T Unit caring for a diverse group of patients with haematological conditions and malignancies. We provide elective treatments, encompassing systemic anti-cancer treatments (SACT), and acute/emergency care for patients from across Nottinghamshire and the surrounding regions experiencing complications secondary to their underlying disease or the treatments they have undergone. 

We are looking for a dynamic, enthusiastic and hard-working individual with proven clinical and leadership/management skills and cancer care related experience to join our competent and dedicated team in providing the highest standard of evidence-based, holistic patient care.

Main duties of the job

The successful candidate will:

Act as the deputy to the ward manager, regularly taking charge of the ward and ensuring that the standards and quality of care given to patients, together with the environment in which care is delivered, are maintain at a high standard.

 Be an effective leader and role model and will be expected to provide regular direct clinical care and use experience to support the implementation of both clinical and non‑clinical governance.

Work flexibly as a member of the ward team and in support of the Ward Manager to ensure standards are being maintained, evaluated, and where necessary improved.

Training & Qualifications

Essential criteria
  • Current level one NMC registration
  • Demonstrate basic IT skills
  • IV trained
Desirable criteria
  • Degree in health / nursing related Studies
  • Continuing professional development/ reflective profile
  • Formal leadership and management training
  • Chemo Trained
  • Have teaching/training qualification e.g assessor

Experience

Essential criteria
  • Significant post-registration experience.
  • Supervision of non-registered staff, pre-registration and post basic students
  • Ability to manage a team and efficiently and effectively
  • Convey sensitive information in an empathetic manner to patients, relative/carers and staff
Desirable criteria
  • Recent or current experience within the specialty
  • Demonstrate an involvement in link nurse, or project work
  • Audit or research within the clinical area
  • Providing staff with feedback on their individual performance and use of the knowledge and skills framework
  • Chemotherapy trained

Communication and relationship

Essential criteria
  • Physically able to perform a full range of nursing duties
  • Demonstrate effective written and verbal communication skills
  • Produce timely, accurate written/electronic records and documents
  • Recognition of own level of competence and limitations able to communicate these to appropriate staff
  • Can minimise interpersonal conflict and barriers to communication
Desirable criteria
  • Evidence of negotiation and influencing skills
  • Demonstration of team working and ability to work within a team

Analytical and Judgement skill

Essential criteria
  • Demonstrate an ability to assess, plan, deliver, prioritise and evaluate patient care
  • Ability to identify own learning needs
  • Able to respond to problem situations and to ensure that effective interventions are put in place
Desirable criteria
  • Demonstrate a knowledge of current issues related to the NHS policies
  • Evidence of data collection and analysis

Planning and organisation skil

  • Demonstrate an ability to prioritise own workload and recognise, prioritise and respond appropriately to urgent and emergency situations
  • Able to contribute to the development of implementation and monitoring of local objectives and action plans
