We are pleased to present this opportunity for a B8B 0.4 wte position within our Cleft Lip and Palate Clinical Psychology Service.  Experienced Clinical Psychologists  with an interest in clinical health psychology and the impact of growing up and living with a visible difference are invited to apply for this varied role in the growing Cleft Lip and Palate Clinical Psychology Service. You will join a Consultant Clinical Psychologist and another Clinical Psychologist within a highly welcoming multi-disciplinary team of plastic surgeons, nurses, speech and language therapists, orthodontists and dentists. You may have experience of working with physical health problems with either children/families or adults, or experience of working in child and adolescent or adult mental health services with a keen interest and desire to apply that knowledge to work in an acute trust.

The main duties of the role will involve working closely with the multidisciplinary Cleft Lip and Palate team to offer psychological care to those born with a cleft lip and/or palate across the lifespan. You will work with children, young people and adults through consultation to staff, direct work and by attending multidisciplinary clinics. Whilst your base will predominantly be at the City Hospital campus, you will also attend multidisciplinary clinics across the Trent region (Queens Medical Centre in Nottingham, Sheffield, Doncaster, Leicester and Derby). You will be part of a welcoming and growing Clinical Psychology Department which incorporates specialisms in Paediatric Psychology, Adult Medical Psychology and Child and Adult Neuropsychology.

There are opportunities for continued professional development and clinical supervision is well provided for within the team by the Consultant Clinical Psychologist. We regularly have trainees from the DClinPsy courses around the region, so there would be opportunities to supervise trainees. You will also be involved in providing consultation, training and supervision as required to others within and outside of the multidisciplinary team. The department has a commitment to clinical research. Strong support is available to participate in research or to develop your clinical research interests.

Appropriate clinical supervision will be provided by clinical psychologists working in the adult medical psychology service. Currently, the post will be supervised by a very experienced Consultant Clinical Psychologist working within Cleft Lip and Palate.

Training & Qualifications

  • Post-graduate doctoral level DClinPsy in clinical psychology as accredited by the BPS
  • Current HCPC registration for Clinical Psychologist
  • Completion of further post qualification specialist relevant training, including training in the supervision of trainee clinical psychologists
  • Training in two or more distinct evidence-based psychological therapies and lifespan/developmental psychology

  • Post-doctoral training in one or more additional specialised areas of psychological practice.
  • Post-qualification accreditation in evidence-based psychological approaches e.g. cognitive behaviour therapy, ACT, CFT, mindfulness, etc.

Experience

  • Working as a qualified Clinical Psychologist with children and adults with physical health problems, or with children or adults with psychological difficulties
  • Experience of working with a wide range of client groups and presentations
  • Experience of teaching, training and/or professional and clinical supervision
  • Experience of exercising clinical responsibility for clients’ psychological care and treatment, both as a professionally qualified care co-ordinator and within the context of a multi-disciplinary care plan
  • Experience of working within a multi-disciplinary team, with other disciplines including medical and nursing
  • Experience of providing supervision and consultation to other clinical staff including psychologists.

  • Experience of specialist psychological assessment and treatment with people with medical and health conditions
  • Experience of working in acute hospital trusts with children or adults with medical/chronic health conditions
  • Specialist experience of working with people with a visible difference
  • Experience in the psychological assessment and preparation for people considering surgical/medical interventionslinical research
  • Experience in working with challenging client groups (e.g. people with multiple physical, social and psychological problems)
  • Experience of conducting evaluation projects and clinical research within health settings
  • Experience of the application of psychology in different cultural contexts

Communication and relationship skills

  • Well-developed skills in the ability to communicate effectively, orally and in writing, highly technical, and clinically sensitive information to clients, their families, carers and other professional colleagues both within and outside the NHS
