This is an essential role for the organisation. Working as part of the Chief Nurse corporate team the Chief AHP will provide both strategic and professional leadership to the relevant 14 allied health professions (AHPs) and ensure that issues of quality and clinical assurance are visible to Trust board. AHPs are the third largest and a diverse part of the workforce at NUH with 1700 across 9 professions working in all divisions in the organisation. Having knowledge of, and the skills required to, represent all allied health professions is essential, acknowledging the commonality but also the unique attributes of each profession.

This post requires high quality leadership and strategic insight into the factors that support the delivery of high-quality care, patient safety and patient experience, in order to operate as a member of the NUH senior leadership forum in playing a unique part in meeting the organisation’s strategic priorities. Working at a strategic level across the trust, the Chief AHP delivers assurance in relation to the professional standards, workforce and education for the AHP professions in the organisation. The CAHP provides the assurance that best outcomes for patients, service users and population health are being achieved through the optimisation of the AHP workforce.

•    Provide collaborative strategic and clinical leadership to the organisation and wider system to ensure effectiveness and sustainable success thereby maximising the benefits for the patients, service users and the public from AHP professions.
•    Provide professional accountability and assurance in relation to AHP workforce safeguards and standards to deliver regulatory expectations 
•    Develop a shared understanding of, and commitment to, the vision and strategic aims of the AHP services within the senior leadership forum at NUH, working with the Divisions, People Committees, Trust Board, quality and safety  oversight group, staff and associated external bodies, leading AHPs through a process to transform delivery of care within NUH and beyond into the ICS.
•    Responsible for the development and delivery of the strategic plan for AHP services across the Trust working in collaboration with the Chief Nurse, Medical Director, Chief Pharmacist and Chief Healthcare Scientist and all 6 divisions.
•    Provide leadership and direction for continuous quality improvement in the allied health profession’s contribution to high quality care, patient safety and patient experience, working with medical and nursing leaders to ensure that there are effective mechanisms for anticipating and identifying key clinical risks that could impact successful strategic delivery, and for developing the strategic response to those risks.
