Adult Critical Care are looking to employ a motivated and conscientious senior nurse/ODP to join our friendly and dynamic multi professional team caring for critically ill patients and their families.
You will have a extensive experience in caring for critically unwell patients and their families. You will be an experienced operational leader with ability to prioritise and respond to planned and unplanned situations and ensure the smooth, safe and efficient running of the unit.
Main duties of the job
You will need to lead the team around the clock in the development of Critical Care by promoting excellence and having innovative thinking.
You will have excellent communication and interpersonal skills and be able to work under pressure in what can be a stressful environment with complex situations.

Detailed job description and main responsibilities
The Sister/ Charge Nurse/ODP will be required to:
Have 24-hour responsibility for managing staff and budgets. Ensuring that the standards and quality of care given are maintained to a high standard, to include hotel service provision and the environment in which care is delivered.
Have responsibility in ensuring that patients and users are involved in their care. Providing visible evidence that their feedback is used to maintain standards or implement improvements that have an effect on their care.
Be an expert leader and role model, providing regular direct clinical care, in addition to ensuring effective use of non-clinical time to support the implementation of both clinical and non-clinical governance, facilitating the modernisation of patient services.
Work flexibly as a member of the team to ensure standards are being maintained, evaluated and where necessary improved.
Contribute to the work of time-limited committees and project groups.
Undertake any other duties that may reasonably be required.

Training & Qualifications
Essential criteria
- Current level one NMC registration
- Relevant post-basic qualification in Critical Care specialist pathway (ENB 100 or equivalent)
- Evidence of academic learning at Level 7 (Masters level) or equivalent
- Introductory management course
- Possession of NMC Mentoring Course
- Degree in health / nursing related studies or equivalent level of study
Desirable criteria
- Masters in health / nursing related Studies
- Formal leadership and management training / course
Experience
Essential criteria
- Evidence of Critical Care knowledge and clinical practice
- Evidence of leadership, management & time management skills
- Evidence of change management in nursing
- Evidence of appropriate delegation, support and supervision of all staff
Desirable criteria
- Evidence of involvement in project work
- Evidence of audit / research work within the clinical area
Communication skills
Essential criteria
- Evidence of effective written and verbal communication skills
- Evidence of minimising interpersonal conflict and barriers to communication
- Evidence of staff appraisal & performance management of staff

Analytical skills
Essential criteria
- Evidence of an understanding of the sister/charge nurse role
- Evidence of responding to problem situation and associated effective interventions put in place

Essential criteria
- Evidence of use of the development, implementation and monitoring of local action plans to improve practice

Physical skills
Essential criteria
- Physically able to perform the full range of nursing duties

- Evidence of ability to use Microsoft Office or equivalent
- Able to undertake patient manual handling manoeuvres and non-patient manual handling manoeuvres
