This is an exciting opportunity to join the Elective Orthopaedics department based at the City Hospital campus. This position is offered on a Secondment/Fixed term contract for 18 months.
The successful candidate will ideally have experience in managing waiting lists using Bluespier to utilise theatre sessions or experience as a Specialty PA.
You will be a conscientious and enthusiastic team player, with excellent organisational and communication skills. You will have a good understanding of the 18 week RTT pathway and Patient Access Policy. You will need to be able to demonstrate a clear understanding of patient confidentiality, and be able to remain calm under pressure.
Main duties of the job

Responsible for adding/removing patients to the NUH waiting list and co-ordinating/booking admission to hospital, using hospital IT systems, e.g. Medway PAS/Bluespier.
Responsible for management and accurate validation of consultant waiting lists in line with 18 week RTT, maintaining accurate records to ensure all admissions for elective procedures are outcome and completed on Medway PAS, in line with Trust Access Policy.
Book HDU/ITU beds are required following correct protocol.
Liaise with clinicians regarding appropriate scheduling of patients such as case mix together with other key information to ensure the full utilisation of theatre lists.
Responsible for identifying potential breaches against Trust waiting list targets, and taking timely and appropriate action to avoid the breach, including 28 day for cancelled ops.

Qualifications
Essential criteria
- Educated to GCSE standard with passes at grade C or above for English and Maths or similar through vocational training
- Good command of the English language – both written and spoken
Experience
Essential criteria
- Proven experience of waiting list management within the NHS
- Demonstrate knowledge of waiting list management
- Experience of managing RTT pathways
Communication and Relationship Skills
Essential criteria
- Must be able to clearly and accurately convey information verbally to different audiences including patients, GPs, Medical PAs, Consultants, Managers, hospital admin & clinical staff
- The ability to deal with conflict in a diplomatic and tactful manner
- Must be able to handle distressed or aggressive patients, carers or visitors
Judgement Skills
Essential criteria
- Ability to recognise and advise senior managers on operational issues affecting waiting lists, theatre schedules and capacity
- Must have a full understanding of the Data Protection Act 1998 and be fully conversant with patient confidentiality
