Job overview
An exciting opportunity has arisen for an enthusiastic and dynamic person to join our highly experienced, Elective Orthopaedic Nurse Practitioner team. Do you want to see patients progress through the whole of their pathway and provide support and specialist knowledge to our nurse led service?
The Elective Orthopaedic Nurse Practitioner Team is at the forefront of evidence based care, clinical practice and academic research. As an Elective Orthopaedic Specialist Nurse you will be expected to manage a caseload of the complex Elective Orthopaedic patient, and communicate with the MDT and wider specialist teams. The successful candidate will participate in providing care to optimise patients for surgery and support patients through their journey on the pathway from pre-operative care, to post-operative care and through to discharge.
As part of your role you will be expected to facilitate education to all grades of staff plus patients, and contribute to the service development and pathway improvement.
We are proud of the work our team does and encourage project work that enhances the patient pathway. We are dedicated to providing development and support to anyone joining our team.
Main duties of the job
The main duty of the Elective Orthopaedic Nurse is to work collaboratively with other specialist teams to manage the complex Elective Orthopaedic patient. These patients will have several co-morbidities which may need optimisation pre and post-surgery. The specialist nursing team cover the consent clinics independently prior to surgery; we also provide support to the patient and staff members in the ward settings plus follow-up clinics once the poatioent has been discharged home. The Elective Orthopaedic Nurse Practitioners also run the nurse led urgent access clinic for this set of patients if they are having problems post-operatively.
Being a teaching hospital we expect you to share knowledge and teach within the wider elective orthopaedic team and to nurture any students and provide an insight into the daily running of our surgical service.
