Junior and Senior Emergency Medicine Clinical Fellowship

NHS Medical & Dental: Local Appointment nodal point 3 (MT03)

Job overview

Are you looking for career in Emergency Medicine in a large UK teaching hospital with a Major Trauma Centre?

The Emergency Department at Nottingham University Hospitals’ NHS Trust is excited to be able to offer opportunities for motivated doctors to join our friendly Emergency Medicine team.

You will have the opportunity to work in a forward thinking, dynamic department which is committed to the Trust’s ambition of developing staff and delivering outstanding healthcare outcomes for patients.   The role is for 12 months with the aim to start in March 2025.

Depending on your experience, you will be appointed to a Junior Fellow role on our Tier 2 rota (equivalent to CT1, or CT2) or on our Tier 3 rota (CT3 level) if you hold MRCEM or part of it OR Senior Fellow at Tier 4 level, which is our registrar rota if you have the required amount of experience in ED plus MRCEM.  There will be opportunities for Tier 3 clinicians to progress to the Tier 4 rota and Senior Fellow role if full MRCEM is obtained.

Please note we are unable to bring forward any candidates who do not have the required amount of time having worked in an NHS ED for this round. Clinical attachments are unable to be classed as working in the NHS and your application will not progress if you only have an attachment as your NHS work.

Main duties of the job

Working in our ED encompasses many management skills such as managing the shop floor, keeping to the four hour target and constant reprioritisation of tasks.

You will be supported to work through competencies to develop portfolio evidence to meet your set objectives and will work under the clinical direction of EM Consultants who are present in the department 24/7.  All Fellows will have a monthly teaching day along with educational development time reflected on your rota. You will be allocated an Educational and Clinical supervisor

What we can offer you as a Fellow in ED:

  • Monthly teaching
  • Work place based assessments
  • Shop floor supervision
  • Opportunities to get involved with teaching
  • Audit work and QIP's etc
  • Research opportunities
  • Potential for a secondment to other specialities based on your interest and placement availability

Working for our organisation

Located in one of the friendliest and greenest cities in the UK, Nottingham University Hospitals Trust (NUH) is a Major Trauma Centre and our ED is one of the busiest in Europe, seeing 179,940 new patients a year across co-located adult and Childrens and Young People's  departments.

NUH consists of the Queen’s Medical Centre (QMC) and the Nottingham City Hospital Campuses. QMC houses our Emergency Department which has co-located adult and children’s units. NUH is the Major Trauma Centre for the East Midlands region.

Our forward thinking, research active Emergency Department is one of the busiest in Europe with 195,000 new attendances annually. The Children’s ED sees 44,000 children and young people and has expanded its resuscitation capability with a major capital investment.

Nottingham is a haven for sports lovers and nature lovers.  It is home to two famous football teams, an ice hockey team, an annual tennis open and boasts a test cricket ground and the National Ice and Water Sports Centres.  Known for its high quality schools, the city has excellent rail and road links and an ultra-modern bus and tram service.  A vibrant university city, the centre has an array of shops, restaurants, clubs and attractions to suit all ages and tastes.
