Job overview

An exciting opportunity has arisen for an Electrician at Nottingham University Hospitals NHS Trust to join our busy Estates & Facilities Management Team. They will have been trained within their core skill and acquired elements of both Electrical installation and fault finding and diagnostics. With these skills they will have reached a level of flexibility and competence which enables them to achieve and apply these abilities when required to perform across numerous duties, which will include general maintenance and installation on the complex systems that form part of the infrastructure to the site. As the post holder will be meeting patients and members of the public, a smart appearance and courteous disposition is needed.

Main duties of the job

Test, diagnose and repair faults on electrical installations, plant and equipment, to deal with new situations as they arise and pass on knowledge to others.

Have a large understanding of electrical systems including, nurse calls, fire alarm systems, lighting and general electrical systems to enable diagnostic work and repairs to be completed. Work alongside the in house maintenance team along with working on their own initiative with minimum supervision. There is an expectation for all staff to take an active approach towards training and development of themselves and other members of the team.

Detailed job description and main responsibilities

Test, diagnose and repair faults on engineering electrical installations, plant and equipment, to deal with new situations as they arise and pass on knowledge to others.

Understand the working of electrical systems within NHS buildings.

Instruct others on the above features and other aspects of his/her work.

Perform a wide range of work of other crafts.

Manufacture, assemble, erect and install new work.

Carry out repairs, maintain and efficiently run plant and equipment.

Use all relevant tools and equipment.

To participate in/learn new procedures, new technology, in order to improve methods of works so increasing Department efficiency and utilisation. 

Perform PPM maintenance on these systems along with any other duties delegated to them by the Team Leaders that are within their capabilities.

Essential criteria
  • Technical knowledge of a range of systems including expertise in areas where specialist theoretical and practical experience has been gained.
  • CITB or EITB Apprenticeship and City & Guilds Level 3 electrical qualification
