An exciting opportunity has arisen for a Joiner at Nottingham University Hospitals NHS Trust to join our busy Estates & Facilities Team who are responsible for the maintenance and meeting legal compliance levels at our City campus. You will provide a professional service alongside our in house maintenance team providing a safe and pleasant environment for staff, visitors and patients alike.

Our Team is tight knit and work well together with this vacancy suiting a qualified joiner who is looking for a Team that can provide a high level of service and support on an on-going basis. Working week will be 8.00am -4.00pm Monday to Friday with annual leave starting at 27 days annually along with Bank holidays. 

Main duties of the job

The post holder will provide the day-to-day maintenance to NUH properties at the City campus site. Either this will be in the form of reactive tasks or pre planned maintenance to ensure statuary compliance is met. Required to organise own day to day work tasks or activities along with planning and organising of straightforward tasks with Ward Managers/other Managers when working in occupied areas. Applicant must have significant experience related to construction and minor new work and joinery maintenance work in large organisations along with being competent in the use of woodworking tools and machinery. The post holder will be expected to be guided by standard operating procedures, good practice and be able to understand what results and standards are to be achieved. The post holder will also be expected to be able to carry out duties independently and within small teams without routine supervision.

Detailed job description and main responsibilities

Diagnose and repair faults on complex carpentry and joinery elements, including ironmongery and locking systems; deal with new situations as they arise and pass on knowledge to others.

Manufacture, assemble, erect and install new carpentry and joinery work as required using woodworking machinery and hand tools.

Carry out installation, repairs and planned preventative maintenance on all aspects of carpentry and joinery.

The work will be primarily of a maintenance carpentry and joinery nature but may include other categories of work as and when required.

Carry out statutory inspections / testing and planed preventative maintenance of the building fabric as requested by management i.e. fire doors and window restrictors and complete all necessary documentation.

Use own initiative, knowledge and experience when designing, quantifying, manufacturing and installation of all aspects of carpentry and joinery in accordance with current guidance and legislation.

Training & Qualifications

Essential criteria
  • Required to have ONC or City and Guilds Certification with equivalent level of knowledge to undertake a range of work procedures which require base level of theoretical and practical knowledge.
  • Been trained to a certified level for the inspection and maintenance of fire doors and fire compartmentation.

Experience

Essential criteria
  • Significant experience related to construction and minor new work and joinery maintenance work in large organisations.
  • Competent in the use of woodworking tools and machinery.
Desirable criteria
  • Experience of working in an healthcare setting.
