An exciting opportunity has arisen for a maintenance assistant at Nottingham University Hospitals NHS Trust to join our busy Estates & Facilities Management Team. The maintenance assistant will be employed to work across all engineering disciplines. Maintenance assistants will be employed to work appropriate to their core specialist skills. They will however progressively be suitably trained to acquire elements of each other’s skills with the intention of reaching levels of flexibility and competence to enable them to achieve and apply the ability where required to perform the summary duties listed below. As the post holder will be meeting patients and members of the public, a smart appearance and courteous disposition is needed. 

Main duties of the job

The post holder will provide the day-to-day maintenance to NUH properties at the City campus site. This will be in the form of either reactive tasks or pre planned maintenance to ensure statuary compliance is met. Required to organise own day to day work tasks or activities along with planning and organising of straightforward tasks with Ward Managers/other Managers when working in occupied areas. Applicant must have significant experience related to construction and minor new work and building maintenance work in large organisations along with being competent in the use of both power and hand tools . The post holder will be expected to be guided by standard operating procedures, good practice and be able to understand what results and standards are to be achieved. The post holder will also be expected to be able to carry out duties independently and within small teams without routine supervision.

Detailed job description and main responsibilities

Maintenance assistants are employed to work appropriate to their core specialist skills.  They will however progressively be suitably trained to acquire elements of each other’s skills with the intention of reaching levels of flexibility. As the post holder will be meeting patients and members of the public, a smart appearance and courteous disposition is required. There will be a need to assist electrical and mechanical engineering trades staff in general maintenance duties, including planned maintenance along with reactive tasks. This includes the ability to undertake unsupervised routine maintenance work and minor repairs within the level of competence and skill that the post holder is able to demonstrate. Carry out such duties as may be delegated by the Team Leader, should be able to work amicably with all other trades, and should be willing to assist these trades if required.

  • The post holder will be required to have an understanding of a range of engineering work procedures for different trades gained via job training and a period of induction.
