Job overview

We require proactive and hardworking staff to work as part of a team within the Car Parking Department to provide a fair, efficient and effective car parking and traffic management service to the Trust.

This is a challenging and demanding post – the successful candidate must be confident, approachable and able to work under pressure whilst remaining polite and courteous at all times. You need to be customer focused and be able to communicate with staff, patients and visitors at all levels.

Applicants must be physically fit and able to spend significantly long periods of time on foot / walking around the hospital campus.

Hours of work will be 37.5 per week ( Monday to Friday)

This role requires the candidate to act as a first point of contact for queries and complaints in relation to the car parking service and permit management, both for Trust staff and its patients & visitors.

Responsible for the monitoring of the car parking service equipment, its performance and reporting of faults or damages to the Car Parking Management Team.

Issues enforcement notices and warnings where appropriate and in line with service policies and standards.

Directs drivers of vehicles to appropriate parking areas if and when required and provides information to visitors, students, staff and patients.

Monitors and/or patrols site to ensure traffic remains flowing.

The post holder will be required to be able to work across any of the two NUH sites (City & QMC) and at any time when instructed.

Detailed job description and main responsibilities

The post holder will assist and support the Car Parking Co-ordinator to achieve business and operational goals in line with the needs of all users ensuring the efficient and effective day to day running of the car parking services. Providing a visible service of enforcement across the Trust Estate.

Provide a first point of contact for queries and complaints in relation to the car parking service and permit management.

Responsible for the monitoring of the car parking service equipment, its performance and reporting to the car parking management team and faults or damages.

Take intercom calls and assist customers with their issues and queries.

Take cash and card payments.

The post holder will be required to be able to work across any of the two NUH sites (City & QMC) and at any time when instructed.

Key Job Responsibilities:

Observe, uphold and enforce health & safety regulations at all times including the wearing of hi-visibility and safety clothing and the reporting of hazards and dangers on site.

Monitor vehicles in accordance with the parking regulations in force at the time.

Identify non-compliant vehicles and take appropriate enforcement action.

Ensure checks for compliance on all signs, posts and payment equipment in accordance with the site cleaning schedule and quality standards.

Carry out such car park related duties as specified by the Car Parking Management Team.

Attends designated parking areas at a pay-for-parking and staff allocated areas during established lot hours.

Issues enforcement notices and warnings where appropriate and in line with service policies and standards.

Directs drivers of vehicles to appropriate parking areas if and when required and provides information to visitors, students, staff and patients.

Monitors and/or patrols site to check for required permits and to ensure cars are parked in designated spaces and not blocking traffic flow.

Quick response to notifications of parking infringements as directed by management.

Engage with the Public and staff in a calm, professional and approachable manner at all times.

Be helpful and courteous to all.

Regulates parking and traffic in assigned lot restricting unauthorised vehicles and providing entry to authorised vehicles.

Collects parking machine money tins as directed.

Carry out first line fault finding on car park equipment to reduce equipment down time.

Enters transactions on cash register or other approved means and balances cash according to an established procedure as and when required.

Carries out pre-use checks on service vehicle and records/reports faults and deficiencies.

Completes reports or forms required by department.

Provides directions, parking alternatives and campus information upon request to visitors, students, staff and patients.

Checks assigned car parking areas for suspicious activity and reports such to Trust Security.

Checks permits to verify authorisation and assist in identification of stolen permits.

Working in all weather conditions (outdoor working environment).

Carry out additional related tasks as directed by Management.

Issuing of enforcement PCN notices to those vehicles parked in contravention of the Trust policies.

Essential criteria
  • NVQ Level 2 or similar in Maths and English
Desirable criteria
  • SIA Licence

  • Knowledge of general parking practices and procedures.

  • Experience in dealing with people in a healthcare environment.
