Job overview

This is an exciting opportunity to join a 28 bedded ward which is at the forefront of providing a modern  surgery service for colorectal  elective and emergency patients as well as gastroenterology patients . Our surgeons are forward thinking and research active so much of our surgery is pioneering and done minimally invasively.

We use the principles of enhanced recovery to improve our patient outcomes. To do this we work closely with a number of specialist teams including; Colorectal Nurse Specialists, Stoma Specialist Nurses, Acute Pain Team, Dieticians, Physiotherapists and the Critical Care Outreach Team.

Main duties of the job

We have a caring and supportive team of nurses dedicated to the continuing delivery of safe and excellent care which is supported by our excellent patient feedback. We are looking for individuals who are enthusiastic, highly motivated and willing to expand their knowledge and practical skills.

Training

Essential criteria
  • Current level one NMC registration
Desirable criteria
  • Diploma or degree in health / nursing related Studies
  • Continuing professional development/ reflective profile
  • Have or willing to undertake a suitable Teaching & Assessing Qualification
  • Completion of all local competency packages.

Experience

Essential criteria
  • Supervision of non-registered staff and students
Desirable criteria
  • Evidence of ability to mentor
  • Demonstrate an involvement in link nurse, or project work

  • Demonstrate effective written and verbal communication skills
  • Demonstrate basic IT skills
Desirable criteria
  • Demonstrate Computer literacy & use of IT skills – e.g. e-mail, Excel, PowerPoint and Word

Essential criteria
  • Demonstrate an ability to assess, plan, deliver, prioritise and evaluate patient care
  • Demonstrate an ability to prioritise own workload and recognise, prioritise and respond appropriately to urgent and emergency situations
