Job overview
This role will be at band 6 while training and move to band 7 only when all competences are completed and signed off .
The Advanced Practitioner will work within the MRI team taking a flexible approach to rosters and management of the service, including cross-site working as demanded by the service.
They will be an advocate for multidisciplinary and interdepartmental cooperation to promote best possible patient pathway and care.
Lead new practice and redesign utilising evidenced based data and analysis and develop effective relationships to manage service demand and technological advances. Robust governance and procedural documentation to be developed.
The post holder must be able to work autonomously in their field incorporating complex informed decision making whilst at the same time aware of their own limitations and when consultant input is required. They will engage in self-directed learning as required and motivate a culture of team learning and professional development throughout the department to deliver training in their specialist field offering support to junior staff medical and non-medical.
The post holder will have highly developed specialist knowledge to Masters Level or equivalent supported by extensive practical MRI radiographic experience and is expected to undertake Research and Development activities, audits and clinical trials analysing complex facts and data to inform service improvement.
Main duties of the job
CLINICAL
Provide clinical expertise by demonstrating appropriate expert practice and specialist advice in the specific area of their MRI knowledge and reporting as applies to own qualification. This will demand high levels of autonomy and advocacy
RESEARCH / AUDIT / SERVICE REVIEW AND EVALUATION
Lead and participate in audit and research and benchmarking activities to ensure effective safe and evidence based practice is delivered with high standard of patient care.
EDUCATION
- Continue to develop specialist knowledge underpinned by experience and analysis of evidence and information gained from seminars and study days
COMMUNICATION/NETWORKING
- Advocate and role model Trust values and behaviours with particular attention to patient care including privacy and dignity
- Instigate and participate in peer review and audit of own and colleague’s work
PROFESSIONAL
1. Maintain Registration with HCPC and comply with codes of conduct
2. Professional Indemnity Insurance is mandatory – this can be obtained via Society of Radiographers (SCOR) , RCN or a private insurer
MANAGEMENT
- Assist the Modality Manager and Specialty General Manager with the operational management and workload/workflow of the specialist area
- Support quality control of workload acquisition and reporting. Implement educational support where gaps are identified to ensure competency in all radiographic skill sets

- Promote collaboration and liaise with referring clinicians

Person specification
Training and Qualifications
Essential criteria
- College of Radiographers Diploma, BSc Hons in Diagnostic Radiography or equivalent.
- MRI radiographer
- HCPC registered
- Commitment to work towards and achieve the standard required for Cardiac reporting
- SOR or other membership for professional indemnity insurance
- Demonstrates a commitment to own professional development and has evidence of CPD.
Desirable criteria
- Post graduate qualification relevant to specialty/reporting
- Masters level qualification/working towards
- Knowledge of GE PACS
- Knowledge of CONSERUS process
Experience
Essential criteria
- In depth post registration experience
- A high level of autonomous MRI expertise and able to work within scope of practice
- Practical experience teaching small groups and multi-professional teams.
- Knowledge and experience of Cardiac MRI studies
Desirable criteria
- Leadership and management experience
- Experience in reviewing/developing & implementing MRI protocols
- Experience of non-MRI conditional cardiac device imaging.
- Involvement in Cardiac MRI research projects.
Communication and relationship skills
Essential criteria
- Able to promote collaboration and liaise with referring clinicians
- Clear communication with patients where appropriate
- Work well within a team
Desirable criteria
- Able to educate and motivate junior staff
- Prepare and deliver presentations around CMR
