Specialist Dr in Obstetrics and Antenatal - Part Time

Specialist Doctor

Job overview

Applications are invited for the post of Specialist Dr in Obstetrics and Antenatal. This post is available for a period of 12 months initially with the option to extend by mutual agreement.

This post provides a great opportunity for Specialist Drs or General Practitioners  to continue their professional development in one of the biggest and busiest trusts in the country, prior to applying for consultant posts.

Main duties of the job

This is a new and specific role. Successful candidates will have previous experience in obstetrics and gynaecology or be a General Practitioner with experience working in Maternity during training.  The role will work specifically within General and/or Speciality Antenatal clinics alongside a Consultant.  They will be expected to deliver 4 antenatal clinic sessions per week, working with the named Consultant.  It is anticipated that the successful candidate will be working with the same Consultants each week, seeking to provide continuity of care for the patients attending the clinics.

The post-holder will work 4 half day clinic sessions per week. (9am-1pm or 1.30pm-5.30pm)

Working for our organisation

The Maternity and Gynaecology department includes all hospital and community based obstetrics, gynaecology and midwifery services.

44 consultants contribute to our obstetrics and gynaecology service, of which 18 are obstetric consultants, 18 gynaecologists, and 8 combined obstetrician and gynaecologists.  The hospital based services are split between the City hospital and Queen’s Medical Centre sites. Both have a labour suite which is associated with a level 3 Neonatal Unit, dedicated
obstetric anaesthetic service, and inpatient and outpatient obstetric services.

There is a 3 tier junior doctor 24 hour presence. Our fetal medicine centre accepts regional referrals, and is delivered across the two sites. There is a dedicated maternal medicine service, with multi-professional clinics including obstetric haematology, renal, and medical. There is a strong
research presence in the department, with Nottingham contributing to, and leading, national and international clinical trials.

Detailed job description and main responsibilities

We’re looking for compassionate, ambitious, and progressive people to join our team. With so many opportunities for self-development and progression, we need people who want to learn and inspire others. People who have a voice and want to use it to drive positive change. People who love a challenge and want to be part of transformation.

When you join our team, you’ll be welcomed into our family of supportive and passionate professionals – all united by the same vision, ambitions, and goals.

Both hospital sites have a labour suite and we deliver around 8,000 babies per year. There is a Neonatal unit on both campuses, dedicated obstetric anaesthetic services, and inpatient and outpatient obstetric services. Antenatal outpatient, ultrasound and fetal medicine services are delivered on both campuses.
