Job overview
The Cancer Support worker will work as an integral part of the Cancer Nurse Specialist Teams in oncology to support patients and assist with delivering the personalised care offer for all patients in line with the comprehensive model of personalised care. The Cancer support worker will contribute to the health and wellbeing of cancer patients in their team.
The post holder will provide cancer patients with information and support that meets their individual needs. As part of the team, the cancer support worker will speak to patients to discuss what matters to them through a holistic conversation and assessment. The cancer support worker will provide cancer information and/or signpost them to support services and resources and will develop a personalised care plan which is shared with the patient and GP.
Integral to this role is the ability to communicate effectively, with sensitivity and compassion and to manage relationships with people, making reasonable adjustments where necessary.

Training & Qualifications
Essential criteria
- • Educated to A-level, and or NVQ Level 3 or 4 in Health and or Social Care
- • Evidence of Continued professional development
Desirable criteria
- • Registered Nursing Associate on the NMC register
Experience
Essential criteria
- • Experience of working in a healthcare setting particularly with patients with cancer
- • Experience of working in a multidisciplinary team
- • Understand own limitations and know where to seek advice and support.
- • Experience of working in a multidisciplinary team
Communication and Relationship skills
Essential criteria
- • Demonstrate effective written and verbal communication skills.
- • Ability to communicate effectively with people at all levels, communicating sensitive information to service users and internal colleagues

You must have appropriate UK professional registration.
The postholder will have access to vulnerable people in the course of their normal duties and as such this post is subject to the Rehabilitation of Offenders Act 1974 (Exceptions) Order 1975 (Amendment) (England and Wales) Order 2020 and as such it will be necessary for a submission for Disclosure to be made to the Disclosure and Barring Service to check for any previous criminal convictions.
