Job overview

An exciting opportunity has arisen for an experienced registered nurse to join the senior nursing team on Gervis Pearson Ward  as a  full time Deputy Sister/Charge Nurse . The ward is an 18 bed male oncology ward.

Main duties of the job

The candidate must be able to work in a busy and fast paced environment whilst coordinating staff and patients. The candidate will be involved in the structured management of the ward and will be expected to take a team of staff nurses and complete all necessary training required by the Trust. It will be the candidates role to maintain Trust Values and Behaviours at all times. 

A large proportion of patients who are admitted to Gervis Pearson Ward, are due to the  side effects of their Cancer treatments, this in turn will afford you the opportunity to develop your acute care skills in a range of clinical specialties. We are looking for an individual who has extensive oncology experience desirably within a management role, is hard working, confident and possess good negotiation skills, enjoys a challenge and working as part of a team.

Detailed job description and main responsibilities

The successful applicant will be enthusiastic, dynamic and  a committed Deputy Ward Manager. We will welcome any forward thinking, caring individual with experience of leading a team who is committed to providing a high standard of safe quality patient care.

You must display excellent leadership and communication skills and be confident to deal with members of the public and the hospitals multidisciplinary team. It is essential that you have recent experience in an acute environment. You will also be required to support staff and take an active role in band 6 management duties.

We are a forward thinking ward who are willing to support individuals who are looking for career progression and development. You will also receive a comprehensive induction programme lead by our Clinical Educator who will also work closely with you to ensure sure all role related training is completed.

Training & Qualifications

Essential criteria
  • Current Level One NMC registered
  • Teaching and Assessing Qualification or willingness to complete

Experience

Essential criteria
  • Recent experience in an acute hospital setting
  • Extensive experience within acute oncology/palliative care
  • Chemotherapy competent
  • Management Experience within an acute ward
Desirable criteria
  • Teaching experience

Communication

Essential criteria
  • Ability to work effectively in a team
  • Ability to use own initiative
  • Ability to coordinate a shift and manage a team effectively

Analytical and Judgement

Essential criteria
  • Demonstrate an ability to assess, plan, deliver, priorities and evaluate patient care

Planning and Organisation

Essential criteria
  • Evidence of ability to prioritise own workload and recognise, prioritise and respond appropriately to ugent and emergancy situations
  • Ability to supervise and support others in the prioritisation of the patient care
