An exciting opportunity to Join the Paediatric Sexual Assault Referral Centre as a Forensic Nurse examiner (FNE) and Senior specialist nurse for child sexual assault.

East Midlands Children and Young People's Sexual Assault Service (EMCYPSAS) are looking for a dynamic individual to support the service development and assist in leading the nursing team and support the 24 hour rota for medical exanimation.

Main duties of the job

The East Midlands Children's and Young People's Sexual Assault Service covers the whole East Midlands region with bases at Nottingham and Northampton. This post will be based at Nottingham QMC.

The working pattern will be 37.5 hours over a 24 hour period, to cover 365 days a year on call rota with a group of clinicians. Please call to discuss further if required.

You will be often representing the service at operational and strategic level both locally and nationally, working closely with the Service and Quality Manager and Clinical Lead.

This is a new post to support the medical teams in forensic examination for CYP 13 years and over. Including follow care and report writing for Police and courts etc. Full training and support will be given to the successful candidate.

The post involves leading on the nursing agenda, including developing the service, the role of the nurse, managing other staff and attending meetings internally and externally to many service stakeholders including NHSEI and OPCCs.

Please note due to the nature of this post, a full Police vetting Level 2 (NPPV2) will need to be passed by the successful applicant before commencement of post, this is alongside the enhanced DBS requirement.

To support a culture of strong visible leadership within EMCYPSAS.

To work collaboratively with the EMCYPSAS team, partners and subcontracted organisations to identify and implement potential service improvements or developments.

To be a pivotal lead in achieving  ISO 18159 accreditation.

To lead and support the team with the quality agenda within EMCYPSAS

Use judgements involving a range of highly complex facts or situations, which require analysis, and interpretation of a range of options. E.g. ability to resolve complex multi-stranded problems to improve patient care.

Take a lead in case oversight of children and young people accessing the service, and advising on complex safeguarding cases, including attending strategy meetings.

Deliver care to the young person through forensic medical examination, sexual health follow up, administration of medication, and onward referrals.

  • Registered Nurse NMC SCPHN
  • Forensic examiners qualification recognised by FFLM with significant competent experience.
  • Extensive safeguarding children experience, including attending Strat meetings
  • proven management experience including managing others, health and safety and governance
  • Extensive experience at band 6 nursing or above
Desirable criteria
  • STIF BASH training at foundation level and venepuncture
  • Audit training/experience and writing policy and procedures
  • Evidence of working with multi agency teams at a strategic level to achieve outcomes
  • Judgements involving a range of highly complex facts or situations, which require analysis, and interpretation of a range of options.
  • Non medical nurse prescriber
