Job overview
Substantive Full time Consultant post in Pain Management and Anaesthesia at Nottingham University Hospitals NHS Trust.
We also welcome applications from candidates wishing to work less than full time (Chronic Pain Management).
This post will complement an existing medical team of 5 Consultants and 1 Nurse Consultant. The job plan will involve 10 programmed activities (PAs) each week across Pain and Anaesthetics. These include 8 DCCs and 2 SPAs .There are no on-call commitments
Pain Management sessions include Out-patient clinics, Operating Sessions in the Day Surgery Unit and support to the Palliative Care Team.
As a patient-centred, clinically led organisation we expect our clinical partners to participate in care-pathway development, research, audit and teaching. The successful applicant will be allocated a mentor and be given time to understand the processes of the department.
Main duties of the job
The appointee will be expected to fulfil the following duties with the agreed Job Plan.
Clinical
- Provision with Consultant colleagues of a comprehensive elective service.
- Clinic and theatre numbers would be in keeping with the guidelines.
- Continuing responsibility for the care of patients in his/her charge and the proper functioning of the department.
The successful candidate will be expected to comply with all relevant policies relating to administration of patient care. This includes working to set timescales for the triage of referrals, following the specified process for the management of patients that do not attend (DNA) their appointment or admission, and the completion of all paperwork deemed necessary to support the management of their patients within agreed timescales. Consultants are also expected to work with other partners, clinical service managers, nurses and consultant colleagues to manage their caseload in a flexible way, to ensure clinical, national and local priorities, such as maximum waiting times for referral to treatment, are achieved.
These duties are subject to review from time to time in the light of the changing requirements of the service. If alterations to the described duties are required these will be mutually agreed between the appointee, his/her Consultant colleagues, and the Trust.
Working for our organisation
The current Pain Management service undertakes consultant led outpatient and diagnostic services, treatments and intervention and work closely with community Pain providers to provide care to patients in the most appropriate setting according to their clinical needs.
The Pain service is situated at the City Hospital Campus where there is a dedicated outpatient unit (excluding paediatrics which is situated at the QMC Campus) and includes a specific area to undertake outpatient pain injections. We also undertake Daycase pain injections in our Day Surgery Unit. Our Nurse Consultant provides nurse-led Pain Management including post injection follow-up, medication and annual reviews.
