An exciting opportunity has presented for a self-motivated and experienced Pharmacy Technician to develop their leadership skills in this operational role.

We are looking for two Chief Pharmacy Technicians to join and lead our Pharmacy dispensary service at Nottingham University Hospitals NHS Trust.

As part of this role, a Chief Technician supports the Operational Services Manager to ensure the Pharmacy Dispensary service meets its quality, activity, and financial targets. The role is an exciting opportunity to develop managerial and service improvement skills, building on a strong knowledge of patient services in a busy hospital environment.

Main duties of the job

Providing operational leadership and proactive management of the Pharmacy Dispensing services across both the City Hospital and QMC campus sites.

Lead, motivate and supervise a team of Pharmacy Dispensary Lead Technicians, ensuring effective and regular communication.

Oversee the planning and staffing coordination of the Pharmacy Dispensary service, prioritising actions to respond to demand and ensuring sufficient resources and support.

Liaise with Pharmacy support staff, Pharmacists and multidisciplinary clinical teams to ensure a seamless service to patients and customers, which is delivered to local and national standards and professional guidelines.

Identify, plan and develop new opportunities of service improvement and actively participate in department-wide improvement projects.

Representative for the Pharmacy Dispensary service in relation to clinical governance.

Training and Qualifications

Essential criteria
  • NVQ Level 3 / BTEC in Pharmacy Services or equivalent
  • General Pharmaceutical Council Registered Pharmacy Technician (or ability to register)
  • Management qualification, or equivalent relevant experience demonstrated by acting in a senior role responsible for managing staff, services or resources (equivalent to degree level)
  • Current Pharmacy accuracy checking validation / qualification
  • Evidence of commitment to ongoing learning and personal development
  • Previous post-qualification experience of working in a large busy hospital Pharmacy department
Desirable criteria
  • NVQ (QCF) and Internal quality assurance of assessment process qualification (Level 3), or work towards achieving this qualification
  • Management qualification, or equivalent relevant experience demonstrated by acting in a senior role responsible for managing staff, services or resources (equivalent to degree level).

Experience

Essential criteria
  • Specialist knowledge and experience in Pharmacy Dispensing services, gained through significant relevant post qualification experience
  • Previous post-qualification experience of working in a large Pharmacy Dispensary department
  • Experience of managing a Pharmacy service within the NHS with proven leadership skills
  • Knowledge and experience of managing Pharmacy Technicians and Pharmacy support staff
Desirable criteria
  • Experience of working in a hospital-based Pharmacy Dispensary department
  • Experience of working with internal audits
  • Knowledge of governance and risk management processes relating to the provision of Pharmacy services gained through relevant post-qualification experience
