Are you ready to take your career to new heights? Nottingham University Hospitals NHS Trust (NUH) is seeking a Respiratory Consultant to join our fantastic team of 30 NHS and academic consultants. Together, we deliver exceptional general and specialist Respiratory services to the vibrant community of Nottinghamshire and beyond. This exciting position also provides a unique opportunity to spend up to two sessions (8 hours) per week focusing on research, leadership or medical education (Career Development Programme).

You will be joining a dynamic & dedicated team of professionals providing outstanding Respiratory care and delivering internationally recognised Respiratory research within the NIHR Nottingham Biomedical Research Centre, which is a partnership between NUH and the University of Nottingham.

NUH is the fourth largest acute Trust within the UK, with a busy emergency department at Queen’s Medical Centre, which is a level 1 Trauma Centre. NUH provides services to 2.5 million residents of Nottingham and surrounding communities, and specialist services to a further 3-4 million across the region and nationally.

Applicants must have GMC registration and be eligible to be included on the Specialist Register. Sub-specialty interests could also be accommodated.

Main duties of the job

The successful candidate will work alongside colleagues to provide inpatient care for patients on one of our five respiratory wards. They will also conduct outpatient clinics focusing on General Respiratory, plus one or more out of asthma, COPD, cystic fibrosis, bronchiectasis, ILD, complex ventilation or sleep, working alongside our specialist nurses and clinicians as well as research teams. The successful candidate will also take part in on-calls on the Respiratory Assessment Unit (RAU), when they will be responsible for the management of those patients admitted under their care for a period of 24 hours. This will include morning and afternoon post-take ward rounds. Respiratory consultants also provide in-reach support to Queen’s campus, and the successful applicant will be part of the rotating team which, working alongside our Registrars and ACPs, reviews and advises on patients at Queens with a respiratory need. The precise job plan will be tailored to service needs and the sub-specialty interests/expertise of the applicant.
