Due to successful internal promotion, we are recruiting for a developing specialist Speech and Language Therapist to join us in the SLT ENT/HNC Service at Nottingham University Hospitals Trust . Based at the Queen’s Medical Centre and Nottingham City Hospital campuses, the role requires a dynamic and enthusiastic specialist SLT to provide specialist HNC/ENT SLT services to patients in a variety of settings.
The role requires a developing specialist level of clinical and professional expertise, and you will manage and prioritise a caseload with formal and informal clinical supervision from highly supportive senior colleagues. Familiarity working with this specialist client group is desirable as is commitment to continual professional development and development within this field . You will join a team with a strong ethos of and team-working, in which professional development, quality improvement and research are encouraged.

To manage and prioritise own caseload in a highly specialist area under supervision of senior ENT SLT colleagues, delivering appropriate packages of care.
To work collaboratively with a variety of different agencies/professionals across primary and secondary care; social services and the Voluntary sector
To contribute to planning, and delivery of programmes of learning and development to other professionals within specialist clinical area
To represent the ENT SLT Service at agreed forums as required.

Detailed job description and main responsibilities
Clinical practice
To independently provide specialist SLT assessment, diagnosis, intervention and advice to patients within the ENT/Head and Neck Ca pathways, as well as services to families, support staff and professionals
To assist senior ENT SLT colleagues with provision of diagnostic assessments (endoscopic swallow clinics; Videofluoroscopy x-ray swallow clinics)
Make differential diagnosis using complex information gathered from formal and informal assessments, medical notes and other agencies/professionals. Using this information to develop, implement and provide specialist packages of care and treatment, to meet the needs of the client group and evaluate outcomes
Contributes to the development, implementation of and monitoring of standards for the clinical specialism.
To participate in departmental research within this clinical area
To ensure service delivery in specialist area is underpinned by available research evidence.
Contribute to others’ research by providing data as required.
Clinical Leadership
Day –to-day supervision and direction for Speech and Language Therapy Assistant and students.
To delegate to SLT technical instructor/assistant, administrative and nursing staff
To contribute to team objectives reflecting local and national health and social care priorities
Person specification

Essential criteria
- HPCP registration
- RCSLT membership
Desirable criteria
- Evidence of successful completion of short courses related to client group
- Post basic dysphagia training (eg FEEs/VPG/trache)
Post-graduate dysphagia
Essential criteria
- 2 years experience of dysphagia management in acute and out-patient settings
Desirable criteria
- working with tracheostomy; FEES ; VPG
Specialist knowledge/experienc
Essential criteria
- specialist knowledge of assessment tools and appropirate therapeutic interventions
Desirable criteria
- Experience of working with specialist client groups
- Knowledge of national policies, drivers and procedures relevant to the client group
- Relevant experience in specialist area (H & N; ENT/Max Fac/SVR /Voice disorders
Communication skill
Essential criteria
- Excellent interpersonal and communication skills in written, verbal and non-verbal channels , including with patients who are themselves communication impaired and where barriers to communication exist, and experience of adjusting language as appropriate
- evidence of strong commitment to team working and team ethos
