An exciting  opportunity has arisen for the challenging and rewarding role of Deputy Ward Sister / Charge Nurse on Ward D8 - Spinal Ward at the Queens Medical Centre Campus of Nottingham University Hospitals NHS Trust, sitting within the Division of Surgery.

We are seeking an individual who can drive high standards of patient – centred care in a challenging environment whilst being approachable and proactive to the needs of patients and staff. 

D8 is a busy spinal ward that provides excellent nursing care to patients from a large area of the East Midlands. The ward has a high profile within the Surgical Division, having a track record of developing innovative nursing practice initiatives and a reputation for forward thinking.

You will be self-driven, innovative with excellent communication and interpersonal skills. You will also be highly motivated with a desire to provide the highest standards of care, whilst demonstrating clear leadership. You will provide support and supervision of nursing and non-nursing staff.

Ensuring that the standards and quality of care given are maintained to a high standard, to include hotel service provision and the environment in which care is delivered.

Have responsibility in ensuring that patients and users are involved in their care.

Providing visible evidence that their feedback is used to maintain standards or implement improvements that have an effect on their care.

Be an effective leader and role model, providing regular direct clinical care, in addition to ensuring effective use of non-clinical time to support the implementation of both clinical and non-clinical governance, facilitating the modernisation of patient services.

Work clinically as a member of the team administering treatments ensuring standards are being maintained, evaluated and where necessary improved

Undertake any other duties that may reasonably be required.

The post holder is required to hold a valid 1st level registration with the Nursing and Midwifery Council.

  • Current level one NMC registration
  • Relevant post-basic study relevant to specialty
  • Possession of a Mentoring Course

  • Diploma or degree in health/nursing related Studies
  • Formal leadership and management training

Experience

  • Supervision of non-registered staff, pre-registration and post basic students
  • Evidence of ability to mentor
  • Ability to manage the clinical area or ward efficiently and effectively

  • Recent or current experience within the specialty

  • Demonstrate effective written and verbal communication skills
