Deputy Team Leader

First level registered experienced Band 5 nurse/ODP with orthopaedic theatre experience.

Full-time/part-time considered Band 6 Deputy Team Leader in Elective Orthopaedic theatres.

Are you an experienced theatre practitioner who is passionate about patient safety and quality and would like to further develop your managerial and leadership skills?

Ensure the highest standards of care and safety within the Elective Orthopaedic theatres and in collaboration with the multi-disciplinary teams implement and maintain systems and processes which ensure standards are maintained.

Hours of work, 37.5 hours Monday – Friday, 07:30 – 18:00, not including bank holidays.

On call commitment to out of hours service, including weekends and bank holidays.

Provide leadership, advice and support to theatre staff and foster a learning culture which values high quality safe patient care.

Work in partnership with the Matron, Lead Nurse and our Orthopaedic colleagues to ensure multi-disciplinary team work in achieving agreed, common goals / outcomes across the Elective Orthopaedic service.

Support the development of nursing / ODP staff across NUH as part of the Nursing / ODP Development Team.

Flexibility and strong organisational skills.

Responsible for the assessment, delivery and evaluation of care according to individual patient need.

In the absence of the Team Leader, co-ordinate all aspects of patient care and staff management on a daily basis.

Be a role model and example to ensure that the dignity, rights and confidentiality of the patient and individual team members are protected and maintained in accordance with national standards and guidelines.

Participate in the development of all patient care policies and procedures and Clinical Audit. Contribute to clinical guidelines and protocols where appropriate. Support the Matron in the implementation and evaluation of such policies.

Work within the Trust's Scope of Professional Practice as defined by the Directorate, in accordance with Professional Body requirements. NMC/HPC.

Develop effective two-way communication between theatres, departments and the division to ensure the co-ordination of patient care and the smooth operational management of the unit/department.

In absence of the Team Leader, lead effective theatre team meetings to inform, engage and motivate theatre teams. Ensure the team are kept informed of Corporate and Directorate policy, strategy and progress.

Ensure the delivery of care in accordance with the policies, procedures, guidelines and practices of Nottingham City Hospital NHS Trust and ensure all staffs are up to date with such procedures.

Assist with the establishment, motivation and development of the team. Assist with the identification of individual’s personal and development needs through performance reviews and competency assessment, and in conjunction with the Practice Development Team and Team Leader, complete training needs analysis.

In partnership with the Team Leader, establish a clear focus and direction for the team. Allocate work amongst the team ensuring staff understand the purpose and objectives of the Directorate and their role within the team.  Provide them with guidance and support in order for them to
fulfil their roles. Ensure that they are kept informed of Directorate policy, strategy and progress.

Comply with health and safety and infection control policies and ensure that staff, patients and visitors are appropriately informed and advised. Maintain a clean and safe environment. In conjunction with the Team Leader, ensure that the equipment used and techniques employed by
staff comply with the Directorate and Trust health and safety policies.

Support the Team Leader in monitoring and reviewing quality standards that impact upon the delivery of care, including the essence of care benchmarks, provision of supplies, transport maintenance and housekeeping services.

Take opportunities to be a representative at a local level and participate as a member of the Senior Team Member within the Directorate/Speciality, making positive contributions to the strategic planning of the service.

Lead and direct in the implementation of relevant new research-led practice on the ward / department / unit in order to improve patient care.
