Job overview

We are looking for an experienced vascular scientist to join our friendly team, of 6 accredited vascular scientists, to provide cover for a 1 year fixed term contract, in the expanding Vascular Laboratory at Nottingham University Hospital.  

The applicant should have at least 3 years experience in vascular ultrasound and preferably have full accreditation (AVS) with the Society for Vascular Technology (SVT) of GB and Ireland, NHS Scientific Training Programme Post graduate certification or equivalent qualification.

Main duties of the job

The applicant will be expected to provide a full range of non invasive duplex ultrasound investigations.

The Vascular Lab is based at the Queens Medical Campus but also provides a service to Nottingham City Hospital. The service is equipped  GE ultrasound machines . We provide the full range of vascular investigations, including vascular access work and TCD imaging for children with sickle cell disease. The department provides quality assurance and training for the Nottinghamshire AAA screening program.  We are a training centre for the STP program.

You will work closely with 10 consultant vascular surgeons,  vascular radiologists and clinical nurse practitioners. You will be encouraged to participate in research and audit projects within the unit.

Detailed job description and main responsibilities

The post holder will be involved in the day-to-day assessment of patients referred  to a  specialized Vascular Laboratory.  This requires the accurate assessment, interpretation and reporting of a broad range of non invasive investigations.  These primarily involve ankle and toe pressure measurements, treadmill testing and colour duplex ultrasound scanning.

The post will be based at the Queens Medical Centre Campus, but applicants would be expected  to work and travel to other hospitals in the county.

The main hours are 8am to 5pm Monday to Friday, these is and expectation to work weekend and bank holiday  on rotation.

Essential criteria
  • Experience of vascular ultrasound scanning and a highly developed specialised knowledge of the full range of non-invasive vascular measurements.
  • Experience of infection control procedures

  • Experience of training others in Vascular Ultrasound

Communication & Relationship Skills

Essential criteria
  • Good communication skills and ability to liaise with all levels of medical and nursing staff, and patients and carers.
  • Able to communicate highly complex results to colleagues
