Job overview

This role is situated within the Low Secure Community Forensic Care Group, working in the Community Forensic Intellectual Disability Service. The SLT provision is typically provided by a qualified SLT, however in the context of maternity leave SLT assistant time will be utilised to maintain the accessibility of the team and support the practical application of communication support techniques.

The role purpose to provide Speech, Language and Communication support for the Community Forensic ID Service in terms of establishing and maintaining a communication and accessible service for individuals with a range of Speech, Language and Communication Needs.

A full UK driving licence and vehicle for business use is required for this post; however reasonable adjustments will be made for disabled individuals in line with the Equality Act 2010.

Main duties of the job

The main duties of the role will be to provide:

·       Accessible information for patients & maintain the communication environment

        Complete a fixed term project focused on gaining patient feedback and insights into patient's experience of CFID.

·       Make SLT resources and communication tools available to the MDT – inc. providing  basic training on the use of comm. tools e.g. Talking Mats 

·       Gatekeep access to the consultant SLT within the Care Group

·       Contribute to MDT discussions and decisions re: patient care specifically in relation to recognising and meeting SLCN.

  • Relevant qualification at equivalent level of NVQ level 3

Experience

  • Relevant working experience with clientsor adults with SLCN
  • Experience of using different communication methods with children and young people
  • Demonstration of, commitment to and ability to work as a team member
Desirable criteria
  • Experience of working with speech and language therapists.
  • Delivering training opportunities for staff
  • Experience of working with speech and language therapists.
