Clinical Lead Dietitian

This post provides an exciting opportunity for a senior clinician to work in our Mental Health Services for Older People (MHSOP) wards, based across 2 sites (Highbury in Bulwell & Blossomwood in Sutton-in-Ashfield).

The post holder will work, across 5 wards taking referrals to support the nutritional needs of our dementia & mental health patients. The working hours are typically 8-4pm across the working week.

This post will be supported as part of the Inpatient Therapy Team, which consists of a Team Leader, Occupational Therapists, Speech & Language Therapist, Physiotherapists & Support Workers. It is also supported by a Professional Lead Dietitian across the care group and an AHP Lead.

Prif ddyletswyddau'r swydd

The Clinical Lead Dietitian will be responsible for the integration and provision of a comprehensive and quality dietetic service for all MHSOP inpatients. The post holder will use expert knowledge and experience to educate and support patients and their carers regarding their dietary management. The post holder will provide specialist nutritional and dietetic advice, support, clinical assessment and education to patients/carers, nurses and other members of the multi-disciplinary team.  The post holder will also be responsible for providing advice around good nutritional care into MHSOP community services.

The Clinical Lead Dietitian will contribute to further service development, policy writing and lead on delegated service development projects.

  • Experience of staff appraisal, recruitment and performance management
  • Experience of working in an MDT and ability to discuss management plans and their implications with the MDT.
  • Ability to work with patients in possibly emotionally changed atmospheres.
  • Advanced behaviour change skills.
  • Experience of teaching colleagues and other healthcare professionals.
  • Experience of training and assessing Student Dietitians.
  • Involved in continuing to develop their practice as a Dietitian, to remain competent in clinical practice.
  • Complies with professional standards and code of conduct of BDA and HCPC.
  • Demonstrates own continuing professional development through knowledge of and implementation of the PAD process and competency framework as appropriate.
  • Excellent communication skills including basic counselling skills
  • Excellent IT skills, including e-mail, web browsing and word processing
  • Ability to work independently and in a team, recognising own and others limitations
  • Ability to communicate complex concepts in a manner relevant to the audience

Previous experience

  • Post registration clinical experience obtained within a range of acute /community /social care settings. Experience of teaching groups. Work involving contact with people.

Qualification

  • Degree or equivalent post grad Qualification leading to registration with the Health Care Professions Council (HCPC) as a Dietitian HCPC registration as a Dietitian.
  • Membership of British Dietetic Association (BDA)
  • Appropriate range of post registration specialist professional knowledge and experience acquired through recognised academic study and practical clinical education

  • Relevant clinical update course e.g. PENG Clinical update course, Paediatric update, Diabetes, Public Health.
  • Leadership course
  • Membership of British Dietetic Association (BDA) Specialist Group e.g. older people or mental health.
  • Completed student education training.
